BEVERLY HILLS—This week in Hollywoodland, “Boardwalk Empire” continues its amazing second season with Sunday night’s episode titled “What does the Bee Do?” Is this the Queen Bee Margaret, or someone else, possibly the maid Katy? Whoever it is, “Boardwalk” is even more exciting this season than last year. “B&B” honcho Bradley Bell took his award-winning crew, Emmy winning actor Scott Clifton and leading ladies Kim Matula and Jacqueline MacInnes Wood to his Aspen mansion for an exciting love story and “Y&R’s” Maria Arena Bell brilliantly brings back the character of Christine, played by daytime’s biggest star Lauralee Bell for a stunning and exciting storyline. Plus Sir Paul McCartney marries again, a moving van was seen at Demi and Ashton’s Beverly Hills estate and more news this week.
Kelly MacDonald As Margaret Schroeder On "Boardwalk"
“What Does the Bee Do?” Well, on Sunday night’s exciting episode of “Boardwalk,” you are about to find out. Canyon News can report that, at a birthday party for Mayor Bader (Kevin O’Rourke), Nucky’s attorney has a legal brainstorm that could turn the tide in Nucky’s election-rigging case. Believe me, this is absolutely going to turn the tables for Nucky, however, I’m not saying it’s going to be a good turn of events.
Facing a local liquor surplus, Jimmy and Mickey (Paul Sparks) head to Philadelphia in search of buyers, while Nucky strikes an unlikely deal to get booze into Atlantic City. Jimmy’s about to learn a lesson in crossing big brother Nucky, but it will also be a dramatic change coming for Jimmy and Mickey as well. Eli frets over the Commodore’s ability to lead; Margaret doles out staff bonuses, but is it in response to her housemaid Katy knowing her true and up until this season, secret identity? And how long will Margaret be able to keep the secret from Nucky?
Chalky is cornered at work and at home, but the brutal thug has a fascinating way of breaking down his enemies! Van Alden’s (Michael Shannon) agents will target Mickey’s warehouse; Richard (Jack Huston) lets down his guard in the name of art and my favorite character Gillian (Gretchen Mol) recalls her “first time” with the Commodore.
“What Does the Bee Do” is written by Steve Kornacki and directed by Ed Bianchi. “Boardwalk Empire” airs on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. exclusively on HBO.
Last week I spoke with HBO president of Programming, Michael Lombardo, who reported the great news, “Following a triumphant first season, I was eager to see what Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese and the rest of their stellar team had in store, and they continue to surpass our highest expectations,” said Lombardo. “The response from the media and our viewers has been extremely gratifying.” He went on to announce the renewal of the series. So season three for the end of summer 2012 is definitely a go!
My friend Larry Hagman, who starred as J.R. Ewing in the hit CBS series “Dallas” in the 80s said on Thursday that he’s battling cancer. Larry’s already dealing with his beloved wife living with Alzheimer’s, but he’s very upbeat about his prognosis. "It is a very common and treatable form of the disease.”
Larry turned 80 last month, and is currently filming the upcoming TNT remake of “Dallas,” alongside Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray. Larry’s previously had a liver transplant in 1995 that saved his life, and he’s is ready to battle this disease and return to work on his new series. The original “Dallas” ran from 1978 to 1991, but still airs around the world, where it’s a big hit in Germany, Australia and even Russia. “I could not think of a better place to be than working on a show I love, with people I love. Besides, as we all know, you can’t keep J.R. down!” Hagman said. Only our mutual friend Mary Crosby, who played Kristin Shepherd was able to do that, at least for a short time, when Kristin was revealed in 1980 as the woman who shot J.R.
Scott Clfton As Liam On "B&B" In Aspen
“B&B” has won the Best Daytime Drama Emmy for three years so far, and is on their way to another nomination for sure! Last week’s Aspen, Colorado remote was even more exciting than the Venice, Italy remote, where Brad craftily brought Macy back from the dead. This time around, teenagers Liam, Steffy and Hope battled the Gondolas of Aspen and it left Hope stranded in mid-air and fans rooting for their choice for Liam. In one corner viewers wanted Steffy to finally find happiness with Liam, and in the other corner, a majority of fans wanted Hope to be able to reach Liam, before he married Steffy. As Hope remained stranded in the air, watching on in horror as sexpot Steffy married her former fiancé Liam, viewers cried with Hope and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. The crew and camera artists did a superb job of capturing the rustic and majestic elegance of the Rockies, but wordsmith Bell was at his best. The Holmby Hills resident knows daytime drama, and this storyline was one of my all time favorites. Brad even managed to weave Rick (Jacob Young) into the drama, as well as Dollar Bill Spencer (Don Diamont).
However, the fallout of Steffy’s plot against stepsister Hope is about to start on Monday, when two families gather together to celebrate a momentous occasion, and Ridge makes a surprising decision regarding Steffy and Hope.
A moving van was seen at Demi and Ashton’s beautiful home on Friday. Friends and family hope the two can weather the latest cheating scandal accusations made against Ashton. However, his “Two and a Half Men” appearance last week still brought in 15 million viewers, down from the 28 million debut, but still very strong numbers. Good luck to Hollywood’s original Cougar couple.
Although speculation about Venice resident and famous child star Lindsay Lohan is swirling about the fact that she was photographed at a red carpet event last week with very imperfect looking teeth, to put it mildly. My prediction this week for Lindsay, is that she’ll probably get dragged back to the Beverly Hills courthouse where she may face a very tough judge regarding her decision not to seek psychological therapy for her addiction issues and one of my spies tells me that she has also not been completing community service downtown at a shelter as well. This is one time I truly hope that I am wrong, but I doubt it.
Actress, Director, Producer And Writer Lauralee Bell
However, that was not an earthquake we felt last week. It was the exciting news that Daytime television’s biggest star and most outstanding actress Lauralee Bell will be returning to the William J. Bell Studios at CBS TV City in the pivotal and exciting role of Christine Williams. Genoa City is desperate for the former denizen, who can show that new lawyer Avery how it’s really done! Bell will be airing in November, and what a magnificent decision Maria made by bringing on our favorite legal eagle. Lets hope things heat up again between Chris and Paul, Chris and Nick and we get to the bottom of all that sexual chemistry Chris has with Detective Ronan Malloy, who could also use her help in solving the Diane Jenkins murder.
You’ll hear from Lauralee next month here in Canyon News.
