STUDIO CITY—Joshua Morrow stars as Nick Newman on CBS’s “The Young and the Restless,” the number one person on the number one rated soap opera (20 years at number one every week), which translates to Joshua being the hottest and most popular man on the most popular soap. Fans of the hit show do not have to worry, he’s in the second year of his five-year contract. He’s not planning on going any place for a while and loves his role on the show. “I think Maria [Bell] has been a savior for our show. She’s returned to the old school telling of stories. I love the way she writes Nick. He’s not perfect, he makes a lot of mistakes and doesn’t seem to be able to make up his mind between two women. But he’s a man who is truly in love with both of these amazing women,” said Morrow.

Joshua has won the “Outstanding Younger Lead Actor” award at the Soap Opera Awards and he’s a five-time Emmy nominee. He’s just happy to have a steady job that allows lots of time on weekends to hang out with and to play with his kids. He and his wife welcomed their first child in 2002, their second in 2005 and their third in 2008. They made soap opera magazine history by appearing on four national covers simultaneously. Joshua loves his family and could not stop raving about his beautiful wife Tobe and his boys during this interview. “My wife is amazing. I work a lot, so she has to be the main parent in the family. She does so with ease. I am very lucky to have her and our sons and I never forget that on a daily basis. Family means everything to me and it does to her as well. We try to always do things together as a family on my off-time. That’s one of the many reasons why I love being on ”˜Y&R,’ they afford me the time to be with my family whenever I need to be,” stated Joshua.

Making soap opera history isn’t the only thing Morrow has accomplished. Joshua also was the first soap opera star to lead the Candlelight Procession at Disney World’s Epcot, a spot usually given only to film stars and some primetime TV leads and pop and gospel singers. Morrow was quick to smile and add, “I have a perfect job, this is a fantasy world,” he said. A very personable, charming, handsome and yes very talented star, Morrow also landed the title role in his first TV movie, on the USA Network telefilm, “My Stepson, My Lover.” Joshua has received many offers to star in other projects since but he’s too critical to “The Young and the Restless” to be gone for long and besides, he’d miss out on the extra time for his family and sports. Family comes first to this very stable Hollywood superstar, then his work on “Y&R.” This is one of the things that makes Morrow such a solid person. He’s never felt that he needed to leave such a solid and dependable gig, that any young man in this town would do anything to achieve. Having his family Morrow says is, “a stabilizing force. I had great parents and I want to be that for my kids as well. I think it’s very important to put your priorities where they belong. For me, my family will always come first.”
Morrow joked with me about the time in his 20s when he was a member of a band. “That was a fun time but Tommy, that time has passed. Sure it was great, I was single, we got to travel around the world singing to young girls but now I’m a grownup, a husband and a dad, so I’ve moved on. I’m surprised you even remember that time!” Morrow said while laughing.
Joshua is also extremely athletic and excels in most sports. He also enjoys the perks that come with his popularity such as being a regular on the celebrity golf, softball and basketball, including the NBA Entertainment League circuit and the opportunity to meet his favorite athletes and coaches. “My boys and I love sports. So it’s always fun for me to just get out in the yard with them whenever I can. When I look at my wife and kids, I realize I am living my biggest dream. I have a beautiful, loving and healthy family, while blessed enough to have an amazing job and playing a role that any actor would dream of having,” said Joshua.
The actor also discussed the shocking but groundbreaking storyline when several years ago, his character Nick and then wife Sharon, played by Sharon Case lost their daughter Cassie in a tragic car accident. “As a person who watched Camryn grow up, I was devastated and it was not that difficult to use those feelings in the scenes we had to play. But as an actor, I have to commend our producer and writers at that time because it gave the show a huge new storyline that years later we are still playing out. Losing a child would have to be the hardest thing any parent had to endure but as an actor, it gave Nick an edge and a change that we still play out today in him and it also had an effect on every other character on the show,” Morrow lamented. Then added, “And come on Tommy, admit it. I work with two of the most amazing actresses as leading ladies than anyone else in this genre. Michelle [Stafford] and Sharon [Case] are two beautiful and extremely talented women. I pinch myself every day when I go to work and then I come home to this amazing woman, who I love and our boys. I have a great life and I’m grateful every day for what I have in my personal life and career,” concluded Joshua Morrow.
Joshua especially loves competing in the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach Pro/Celebrity race, three times and counting! He played on his high school football, basketball, baseball, soccer, track and tennis teams but he considers golf and snowboarding his favorite sports. He also has a very extensive and impressive collection of sports memorabilia and loves to play poker, he’s played in the last four World Poker Tours.
