On the Industry
Gaskill’s career as an actor started on the Aaron Spelling series “Model’s Inc.,” which costarred Linda Gray, but Hollywood took notice of the handsome star when he guest starred on series like “Mike Hammer, Private Eye” and “Diagnosis Murder.” Gaskill graduated from the acclaimed conservatory at State University of New York. In 2003 he married the beautiful actress Tonya Watts and in 2005 they welcomed a beautiful daughter Alabama Zoe to their lives.
Brian Gaskill explains what having a family has done to him. “It makes you commit to a world that is outside of you, and yet as you do, it all becomes part of you and allows you to grow in ways you never expected...so that the world ends up being a part of you, and not outside of you at all,” said Gaskill. But the young actor has been busy the past few years making someone else’s dreams come true. The happily married star said of wife Tonya, “My wife had a dream of music, and when she got pregnant she thought it was over. I promised her that that wouldn't be the case, and after doing a short stint on a show in NYC we moved to Nashville. Four years later things are starting to shine bright for her,” Gaskill says with pride. “I was able to do some TV work here and there, but haven't actively pursued it, now it's time to get back to my stuff. However, sacrifice and love helped me grow, and at the end of the day I believe it makes me a better actor and artist.” Well he is! He’s always thought and worked outside of the box.
Gaskill speaks with pride about his independent film work. “I did a short film a while back about an angel who was very scruffy and quirky. He was a real diamond in the rough. Turns out in his previous incarnation on earth he was a golden retriever dog, it was a ‘It's a wonderful life’ kind of story, which I love. But even more I love and miss a character that is so full of quirkiness and faults, and yet has tons of love. This was a character with the freedom to be anything and go anywhere. The irony is in being a dog he could be more ‘human’ than we are ever allowed. I always wanted it to be expanded into a series, to see it fleshed out more would have been awesome,” said Gaskill.
Fleshed out is what the actor is about to do with his career. Gaskill has always been considered a solid actor and outstanding performer. He loves the classic era Hollywood films, which made leading men like Clark Gable, Cary Grant and Henry Fonda household names and leading ladies were beautiful and unforgettable.
Gaskill was chosen for his first serious television role by Aaron Spelling, who was known in Tinseltown for being a star-maker. He also paid his dues in the industry and not only did soaps, but loved them as well. From “Port Charles” Brian went to the number one show in the world, “The Bold and the Beautiful,” which he loved working on. After “B&B” Brian relocated to New York City, where he appeared on “As the World Turns” and “Guiding Light.” But still open to any great opportunities, Gaskill won’t turn away a great role. “I walked away from Hollywood for a bit, for my family, and I don’t regret it for a second, because life needs to be really lived if you want to be a true artist. Now I can't wait to get back to work, and bring it all to the table,” said Gaskill.
Gaskill has become well known in music video circles as well. The handsome star is now directing and producing in this genre. Proof that talent some stars have other talents and interests outside of just acting in this business.
