BEVERLY HILLS
—Actor Asaf Goldstien is paying his dues. The handsome Israeli born star is currently working in the beautiful city of Tel Aviv on stage at Cameri Theatre of Tel Aviv doing Hamlet. Like Jude Law, the thespian loves the stage and the instant gratification it offers. Having been signed to Tel Aviv’s most prestigious and respected talent agency, it’s only a matter of time before he’s Hollywood bound and he’s going to become a big star. Goldstien tells Canyon News, “I truly enjoy working on the classics. I star in ‘Hamlet,' 'Yentl' 'Rumpelstiltskin' and other great dramatic arts. I learned my craft on the British stage, and I am enjoying my career and looking forward to upcoming projects in Hollywood,” said Goldstien.

Asaf’s career hasn’t just been in the standard stage classics, he’s been contracted to do other plays and some haven’t yet gone into production. He believes his varied work offers him an opportunity to grow as an actor and not just to do one genre. Proof of that, the handsome star points out, “I did a reality TV show called ‘Grease,’ which I managed to be in the top four. I also starred in an Israeli soap opera named ‘Our Song.” I played the part of Loir in season one.” Then the actor added, “And I have a role in an upcoming series to be released called ‘Scrugim.’ It’s a series about the life of the traditional Jewish people in Israel. It’s something I’m very excited about. I’m playing a character named Avshalom.” The series is due out in March 2010.
Like the actress Ayelet Zurer, who starred as Sophie in Ron Howard’s “Munich” Asaf is hoping that Hollywood will take notice. “Ayelet is a very respected actress in Israel and she was hand-picked by Steven Spielberg to do ‘Munich’ for Mr. Spielberg. It is exciting to know that there are Hollywood producers and directors who take notice of talent in Israel,” stated Goldstien. Zurer also was the lead actress in “Angels and Demons” (2009).

The actor with smoldering rugged good looks points out he always had the desire to perform before others. “Ever since I was a kid I wanted to become an actor. When I was 16, I found myself in a youth group in the north of Tel Aviv. I was acting in the show ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ playing Conrad Birdie. The next thing I did on stage was ‘Robin Hood.’ In that play I was seen by an English talent scout, director Paul Mills and his wife actress Rozita Yarboy, who brought me to London. It was a dream come true. They were telling my parents and me how much they believed in my talent and the next thing I knew I was on a plane bound for London. I fulfilled three years of stage training there, I loved every moment of it, Tommy. In London you smell culture in the streets. And doing a play there was like biting into a piece of cake. I love London and my experiences there taught me everything I know about acting today,” said Asaf.
“I really admire the work of the greats like James Dean, who I have read so much about. If I could meet and work with any star today, it would be Richard Gere. I think he’s a very good actor and part of legendary Hollywood,” the actor tells Canyon News. When the handsome leading man is not on stage or on a television set, he’s reading biographies about Hollywood icons and gaining knowledge from their life and career experiences which he hopes to bring to Hollywood soon. “I love the art of acting, I have been very blessed to have the opportunities I have been given, and I’m grateful to my wonderful agents who take good care of me and all of their clients and also for everyone out there who believes in me. Whenever I need to just forget about it all, I do love going the gym, I’m addicted to it. Not to mention, living just seconds from the beach, I find myself there all the time during the summer,” said Goldstien. Asked what his favorite film is, Asaf laughed and responded “I can’t choose one over so many great films there are out there Tommy. The last film I saw was ‘This Is It.’ I admired Michael Jackson from the time I was a little kid. It’s hard to believe the world’s greatest entertainer is gone,” concluded Asaf.
Pondering his bright future is one of the other things Asaf Goldstien likes to do. Hollywood is his final destination and he’s ready for his close up.
