SAN DIEGO—Legendary video game publisher Nintendo will make an appearance at the 2013 Comic-Con International, and participants and attendees will have the rare opportunity to play upcoming Nintendo titles before their release date.

On Tuesday, July 15, the Japanese company confirmed with a press release a planned appearance at the annual San Diego multi-genre convention.

“Comic-Con gives us a chance to interact with thousands of current and future Nintendo fans. We have fun games and activities for everyone, and Comic-Con will be the first time for many people to see how these games play in person,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing.

Nintendo will split its resources into two locations during the convention. The company will hold a booth on the show floor in the San Diego Convention Center and will also set up a Nintendo Gaming Lounge on the first floor of the adjacent San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina Hotel.

The Nintendo booth (No. 235) at the Convention Center will focus on the company's upcoming game Pikmin 3 for the Wii U, and the booth will provide game play kiosks as well as photo opportunities based on the game.

Those without a Comic-Con badge can visit the Nintendo Gaming Lounge, which will host numerous other Nintendo games for both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

Visitors will be able to get their hands on numerous games, including “The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Walker HD,” “Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze,” “Super Mario: 3D World” and “The Wonderful 101” for the Wii U and “Yoshi's New Island,” “The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds” and “Mario & Luigi: Dream Team” for the 3DS.

Nintendo plans to host fun activities and photo opportunities, culminating on the last day of Comic-Con with an invitation to all costumed guests to participate in a group photo at 2 p.m.

Comic-Con International begins on Thursday, July 18 and ends on Sunday, July 21.

The San Diego Convention Center is located at 111 W. Harbor Drive, San Diego Ca. 92101, and the nearby San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina hotel is located at 333 W. Harbor Drive.
