The Week In Hot Screen Moments

HOLLYWOOD—This week’s hot scenes heard around the planet include the new film “Margin Call,” which is ripped directly from the headlines and shows the public about the 2008 economic meltdown, and the behind the scenes action that have been driving millions around the world, including here in the U.S. to Occupy Wall Street. From an all star cast to a very well written and acted production, “Margin Call” even beats HBO’s dramatic adapted version of “Too Big to Fail.” Also, who’s that guy? Billy Miller is his name. From “The Young and the Restless” to the CW Network’s “Ringer,” Miller is the guy to be in Tinseltown! And the guy to watch for TV viewers.

“Margin Call” stars Kevin Spacey, Zach Quinto, Jeremy Irons, Stanley Tucci, Demi Moore and Paul Bettany. This production is so authentic and precise that it’s almost as if we are living and working on Wall Street during the economic collapse. Such Academy Award worthy performances by Spacey, Quinto and Tucci. They are truly titans when it comes to Hollywood leading men.

In this production the sense of authenticity was honestly earned, courtesy of the experience of writer-director J.C. Chandor's father, who was an executive for Merrill Lynch for close to 40 years. That familiarity enabled his son to write clipped, to-the-point dialogue that sounds like talk the way it is talked when doors are closed and reporters are far away.

It was Chandor’s script, filled with tart exchanges and involving situations that explore unexpected areas of corporate psychology and human behavior, that attracted that high-powered cast, which also includes CBS’s “The Mentalist” star Simon Baker, who is sublime along with the distinguished cast of character actors, guided by leading lady Moore.

Chandor's work as a director maximizes the impact of his actors. Though “Margin Call” is his first dramatic feature, his varied and successful years of experience in commercials and documentaries really pays off for him..

Billy Miller
The film is most effective because its rich dialogue is delivered by professional actors who know how to use their charisma to make a difference. Quinto stands out in this, and utilizes his skills to underplay scenes and allows others to shine. This he probably learned in JJ Abrams’ “Star Trek” films. However, Quinto is one of the producers on the project. All in all, it’s an enormous project that is well done. Also, the fact that the film was shot in a limited space lends to the credence that many on Wall Street live within a small bubble, so to speak.

“Margin Call” is an eye opening film, that every American should see. Quinto, Moore and Spacey will make it worth your while, if the subject matter doesn’t!

Then there is Billy Miller, who portrays Billy Abbott on CBS’s number one daytime drama “The Young and the Restless.” Last week we watched as Billy’s life continued to spiral out of control in Genoa City, while we also got an eyeful of the handsome and talented star, who is now guest-starring on Sarah Michelle Gellar’s series “Ringer.” Miller plays her new AA sponsor Charlie, who saved the day last week. And fans are excited to see our favorite “Y&R” character and actor moonlighting to primetime. Films are next. Billy Miller is one of the most handsome and talented of all Hollywood stars today.
