This Week In Hollywoodland

HOLLYWOOD—This week I had two friends celebrate their birthdays. There was a big firing in reality TV, and can you believe it? More baby news. Lastly, I’ll give you my holiday movie must-see picks.

A special happy birthday to my friend the handsome, talented Jack Wagner who portrays the character of Nick Marone on CBS’s “The Bold and the Beautiful.” Jack has made an indelible mark on Hollywood over the years. He is a former soap star who proved he was also a sensational singer and musician. His fan appeal skyrocketed on “General Hospital” and then went into the stratosphere on Aaron Spelling’s “Melrose Place,” where he co-starred with his now girlfriend, Heather Locklear. When Bradley Bell tapped Wagner for the coveted role on his soap, Jack didn’t just go on the set and become a mediocre talent. Like every role he’s ever played, he made it so exciting and one of a kind. No one else could play Nick Marone at this point and there is only one great star like Jack Wagner in Hollywood. He is the father of two beautiful children, a philanthropist who raises money and awareness for cancer research and other issues—a one of a kind actor who brings a unique gift to Hollywood and to television. Jack Wagner, happy birthday! Your “B&B” cast and crew, like all of us, love you—especially my publisher’s daughter.

Also, my dear friend and former costar Rachelle Carson Begley celebrated her 29th birthday this week. Yes, I did say 29. Rachelle and Ed are busy filming their third season of “Living with Ed” for the Planet Green Channel, so Rachelle was unable to celebrate her birthday with a big party. Here’s hoping Ed gives Rachelle a big surprise gift for her birthday. After living with Ed all of these years, one thing is for sure. Rachelle deserves a medal. All jokes aside, Ed and Rachelle are one of Hollywood’s truly loving and solid couples and here’s to Rachelle, a happy birthday from all of your friends and family.

If you haven’t been under a rock this week you have probably heard the big news of Khloe Kardashian’s marriage over the weekend to an NBA superstar. For the life of me, I wonder what Khloe has done to become a star. Though I have to say, whatever it was, good for her. I hear their wedding photos are already in a bidding war, with a major entertainment magazine offering $500,000 for the first pictures. If like me, you can’t afford to bid on the photos of the wedding, I hear you will have an opportunity to see the wedding ceremony on TV on the E! Channel on November 8.

Get well soon Tori Spelling. Earlier this week the actress was rushed to the hospital with severe abdominal pains. Her husband Dean McDermott tweeted, “T is in the hospital now with severe stomach pains. We're trying to get her comfortable.” The next morning Tori returned to the hospital and Dean added, “Just out of the hospital. After a battery of tests, no conclusive answers. She still feels terrible. Hope it passes soon. She's in a lot of pain.” Dean and Tori star along with their two kids in “Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood” on the Oxygen network.

Golden Globe winning actor James Franco has apparently been cast in a role on the ABC hit drama "General Hospital." Franco contacted the show offering to do a two-month stint on the series. Franco is a real movie star who is bankable and his appearance on "GH" is one of the biggest news stories that has hit daytime television in decades.  Franco, 31, will be playing a mysterious new character who will torment romantically-challenged mobster Jason Morgan starting November 20.  "General Hospital" has seen film icons like the late Anna Lee, Elizabeth Taylor and Constance Towers join their series and this is on the level of that news.

In other reality TV news, to the surprise of very few, Jon Gosselin was fired this week from the TLC Channel series “Jon and Kate Plus 8.” Immediately after hearing the announcement that TLC was renaming the show, “Kate Plus 8.” Jon had a change of heart and has asked his lawyers to halt the divorce proceedings, stating that he had been rash in his rush to divorce his wife and wants to rethink the breakup. So what will he say to his wife after his recent ABC interview with Chris Cuomo in which he stated that he “despises her”?

The star of “Two and a Half Men” Jon Cryer has adopted a baby girl named Daisy with his beautiful wife Lisa Joyner. Joyner and Cryer wed June 2007. Cryer has a 9-year-old son from a previous relationship. Good luck to the new family. Last month Jon Cryer accepted an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy series.

In a week of hearing about terror arrests throughout the nation, you cannot leave Hollywood out of the scary danger either. On Tuesday, a call to the LAPD was made when during the filming of “The Green Hornet,” starring Seth Rogen, some set-siders noticed a steel object left on the street in the Mid-Wilshire region of the city. The bomb squad was called; a robot blew up the material, which was found not to be a bomb. Thank goodness this was the case and maybe others will start to realize that our nation remains under the threat of terrorism.

The NYC Coroner’s office also named Adam Goldstein’s death an accidental death by an overdose of prescription drugs. DJ AM, as he was known, was once engaged to Nicole Richie, the daughter of singer Lionel Richie, who lives in Malibu. A private memorial service for actor Patrick Swayze will be held on Sunday at the Sony Studios in Culver City. Patrick died of pancreatic cancer on September 14.

Ever wonder how Brooke Burke stays so beautiful and in such great shape? Maybe it’s yoga? This week I saw Brooke at Wii Fit Plus Fitness Club in West Hollywood. I simply love this spot, but I need to do some stretching of my own instead of hanging out there for the healthy juices and drinks.

Every week I’m asked which movies I’m looking forward to being released. This week I decided to give everyone my picks for the top five films that fans must see before the end of 2009. Michael Jackson’s “This is It” is a must-see for Jackson fans. I won’t be going to it, but I hear it’ll be very exciting for his millions of fans. It’ll only be out for two weeks, so check out this official site for locations, dates and times: http://www.thisisit-movie.com/?hs308=email.

My very first pick includes, “Avatar.” The James Cameron feature film that is his first since the release of his mega hit “Titanic” in 1998 is a must-see. Here’s a sneak peek and it’s amazing, http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi2804482585/ . Then there is the film I’ve waited all year to see, the Twilight sequel “New Moon.” The release is on November 20 and for Edward and Bella fans, you won’t want to miss it. The scenes shot in Italy are incredibly done and the storyline is much better than the previous “Twilight” film. Here’s the official trailer for the film, http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi3859022361/ .

The next film I think is a must-see is a Johnny Depp and Tim Burton collaboration. Depp as the Mad Hatter in “Alice in Wonderland” is a spectacular story that all of us loved as children with the special effects wizardry of a genius. Take a look at the film’s official trailer at http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi4240966169/.

Then you just have to see Jude Law and Robert Downey, Jr. in “Sherlock Holmes.” The British detective series that has become a classic worldwide is the final picture this year you must see around Christmas time. To see Law and Downey, Jr. at work, take a look at this trailer, http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi4237361689/.

Last but certainly not least. A film called “Confession” directed by the maverick filmmaker Ed Kaye and starring Kelly DeSarla, Brennan Elliott and the multi-talented Maurice Benard probably won’t make it out this year, but should be released in early 2010. That film as well as Henry Jaglom’s “Queen of the Lot” are must-see films for movie goers who want to see stories about characters who are rich and played by the two very talented stars in Hollywood today. Maurice Benard and Tanna Frederick are destined to get Oscar buzz when their films come out. Tanna is going to become the new Bette Davis of the 21st century. As her director Henry Jaglom is already the director of this century.

Here’s wishing actor John Travolta and his beautiful actress wife Kelly Preston our love and support for the difficult week they have had while John was testifying for the prosecution in the case of alleged extortion by two Bahamian citizens surrounding the death of John and Kelly’s son Jett last year. In a week that found Hollywood split between supporting and not supporting director Roman Polanski, everyone feels supportive of John and Kelly of their recent tragic loss. Here’s a special hello also to their beautiful daughter Ella Blue.
