On the Industry

This Week in Hollywoodland
Posted by Tommy Garrett on Nov 21, 2009 - 8:20:28 PM

BEVERLY HILLS-Hollywood is dealing with two hysterias this week. “New Moon” opened on Thursday night with the midnight shows across the country bringing in almost $30M overnight. The presale tickets are the highest in motion picture history. Another saga also opened it’s closing act. Oprah Winfrey announced on Friday morning to a packed studio audience and millions of TV viewers that she was ending her almost twenty-five year national network TV career at the end of next season. Oprah’s long goodbye is one of the most emotional decisions she’s ever made.

Also, this week Hollywood beauty and icon, actress Eileen Fulton spoke exclusively with Canyon News about her upcoming Christmas show in Manhattan. Just weeks away from the show‘s debut, we caught up with the busy actress who is also the cabaret queen and she gave us a look into her upcoming annual holiday show.

“This year I am not doing my annual Christmas show at The Metropolitan Room, but at the newly renovated ‘Don’t Tell Mama,’ said Fulton. Eileen is returning with her amazing music director Mr. Bob Goldstone and her regular ensemble on December 5 and 12. Eileen tells Canyon News, “expect to see Tom Hubbard on bass and Steve Bartosik on drums. Tommy, the new venue is just amazing and beautiful. It has recently been renovated.” Eileen tells Canyon News highlights include her rendition of “Grandma Got Run over By a Reindeer.” “Also, I will do ‘December Snow’ which is a true story in my own life, it’s sad and poignant but I hope to make it entertaining,” said Eileen Fulton. Eileen Fulton’s “The Christmas Show” can be seen in NYC. Find details about times and cost by visiting www.EileenFulton.com. Eileen Fulton has portrayed Lisa on “As the World Turns” since 1960.

Oprah Winfrey is a true American success story. Growing up in utter poverty in Mississippi, being sexually abused by relatives as a child, she went on to get an education and soon she was seen on Baltimore, Maryland TV alongside best friend Maria Shriver, who is California’s First Lady. Oprah has created a media empire, and her personal wealth is estimated by Forbes magazine at over $2.5 Billion. She will be creating a cable station called OWN-The Oprah Winfrey Network. Winfrey’s departure from network television was a huge surprise this week, but her future remains very bright. Oprah also added, “I have a new mansion in Montecito, which I have not been able to enjoy.” Her HARPO studios will be moved from Chicago, where it has been for 25 years and Oprah will be relocating the offices and her studio to Los Angeles. Hooray for Hollywood!

Every week I get so many amazing comments from fans of some of the television shows we all love to watch. This week I was asked about the casting for season three for the “True Blood” series on HBO. The question is always, who is the best actor who could bring real intrigue and drama to a new character in Bon Temps? This week we take a look at Kimberlin Brown. A Bill Bell find, who made history as the most evil villain on daytime television. Later Bell made history by crossing over the demonic character of Sheila Carter, whom Brown portrayed to his sister soap “The Bold and the Beautiful.” Brown’s Sheila terrorized Genoa City and then vanished. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS960C7N0Xk As the promo says, “Evil has a name-Sheila.” Later Sheila terrorized Stephanie Forrester on “B&B” and shot her. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyQOfQrJxww. Leaving Stephanie for dead Sheila kidnapped Amber Moore. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlcEXdHuc48 We also know Sheila’s reign of terror continued when she shot Brooke Logan and Dr. Taylor Hayes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoxLblTSfZs Kimberlin Brown is our choice this week as an actress who should arrive in Bon Temps and terrorize the town. Though she’d be less annoying to fans as Maryann was.

Kimberlin Brown is brilliant and effective at making her evil character, Sheila slightly sympathetic to the audience. That may be however because “B&B” Emmy-winning scribe Bradley P. Bell is the best writer in television today. Fans however would love Brown on HBO’s “True Blood.”

This week Hollywood hosted over 80,000 fans who arrived from all over the world to witness the premiere of “New Moon.” On Monday night, four blocks deep, fans lined streets in Westwood to meet the three major stars of the “Twilight” sequel. On fans minds as well as most Hollywood insiders was how could Johnny Depp, who is very talented and sexy beat out Rob Pattinson as People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2009? Pattinson who is one of the most talented and modest actors in the industry just shrugged off the concerns when media questions about that were presented to him. Pattinson is not only going to prove he’s the most bankable actor in Hollywood currently, but hopefully he’ll receive an Oscar nomination for his leading role in the vampire film.

Believe it or not, there is a teenage girl or “Tween” as Twilight fans are called, that is not a fan of the “Twilight” films. Miley Cyrus told an interviewer earlier this week that she did not like the vampire and werewolf storyline and was not very excited about seeing the film. Many Hollywood insiders wondered if that was a smart comment to make for the young star since most of her fans are most probably “Twilight” fans as well. Unfortunately also this week, back east in Virginia, one of Miley Cyrus’s tour buses crashed on a highway turning over and killing the driver and injuring others. A representative for Miley tells Canyon News, “Miley was not on that bus and she’s upset about the accident but she is unharmed.” Hoping the injured will be released from a hospital and better soon.  Prayers for the family of the deceased man go out.

Larry King celebrated a birthday on Thursday. Fans and friends of the talk show giant wished him well and many more birthdays. Canyon News can report that fame and television stardom are going to become a bigger part of the King household. The Beverly Hills resident’s son, Chance, who is 10 years old landed a job as a talk show host on the Fox Sports channel in “Kid Pitch.” Canyon News reached out to Larry King this week, who told us through his CNN spokesman, “I couldn’t be more excited for Chance. He really knows and loves baseball, and will be one heck of an anchor.” The spokesman added further, “Both boys [twins] are huge sports fans.” Congratulations Chance.

Wishing Nicole Richie a speedy recovery. Nicole was treated this week at Cedar’s for pneumonia. Nicole’s kids are with their dad Joel Madden while she’s getting better. Also, Jim Carrey’s daughter Jane was married this week. Supermodel Heidi Klum took her husband Seal’s last name. His full name is Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel. The couple has been married for four years.

On that happy note, I wish you all a happy week and a beautiful and blessed Thanksgiving.
