February Sweeps

Hollywood's in a tizzy right now. February sweeps are here ! This is the time that networks and shows' producers spend their time trying to set higher premium ad prices for their hit shows.
Top sellers so far are "ER," "CSI" and "Grey's Anatomy." However, if ABC doesn't get rid of the tacky and misbehaving actor Isaah Washington, I wonder how long "Grey's Anatomy" will stay in the top rated series. I know many people have turned it on since last month's Golden Globe Awards just to see if Washington was a better actor than he is a person. However, I feel his acting, excellent as it is is not powerful enough to allow him to make slurs at his costar TR Knight. Knight has been known as a quiet young man who is growing in this field and after Washington's October attack on the set verbally at Knight and physically at Patrick Dempsey, many of us had hoped that ABC and the producers of this hit show would take no more from him.
After his tirade in the mic at The Beverly Hilton Hotel during the press conference, I just started turning him off when he comes on the screen. Vicious behavior from someone who is not handsome or talented only to bring attention to a costar who wants nothing more than to live his life and career privately. I hope that by season's end, Washington and his character will be history. The show must go on, but without him!
Daytime television is also not immune to the February sweeps mayhem. Most of the shows have geared up for superb story, "Y&R" to solve the "Who killed Carmen Mesta" storyline, "ATWT" delving into the newly psychic Paul Ryan's life and "AMC" is not getting the credit it should be getting for the most ground breaking storyline on television. "Transgendered nutcase who may or may not be a the Pine Valley serial killer." The actors are doing a great job in that storyline. Oops, maybe I'll make Isaah Washinton angry just bringing this up? I hope not, I don't like being choked or yelled at. Then again, who does?
Please take the time to go to www.latebloomer.org and pick up David Johnson's great CD. This is a wonderful singer, who is taking Hollywood by storm and showing up at more venues in this town than any other singer. David is so charming, talented and gracious. He has regulars at Stoney Point, a posh and elegant restaurant in the city and just makes all of Hollywood's piana bars a sensation when he's on stage. For those who love and want to hear the old classical standards, this CD is for you. And very reasonably priced. My suggestion is pick it up now before he hits it big. It's only a matter of time.
My next column will be on Oscar picks.
