Fast Food Vs. The Home Cooked Meal
Posted by Trevor Roberts on Jan 24, 2013 - 10:51:24 AM

UNITED STATES—Are we a nation that is obsessed with eating fast-food?  The answer to that question is absolutely.  It appears fast-food restaurants are everywhere that we turn we can’t escape them.  They are not healthy for us, and you’re never satisfied after eating; you always want more.  Do you wanna know why that is?  Because its fast-food.  The goal is not to make you full; it’s to provide you with something quick to ease that craving that you have.

I remember the good ole’ days when I could go to McDonald’s and get a combo for about $3, those days are way behind us.  Depending on what region in the country that you live in you can expect to spend between $6 and $10 for a combo for one person; now imagine trying to feed a family of four, that’s $50 easily down the drain.  The cheapest way to provide a meal for the family is a $5 Hot-N-Ready from Little Caesars; I know some of you have no idea what I’m referring to.

Look at things this way, what is spent on eating fast food is money that can be easily used to purchase groceries for a home cooked meal that is hearty and healthy for you.  The thing about home cooked meals is that it takes a bit more time, but in the long-run you’re full when you get done eating.  I’ve noticed that over the past few years and this year alone, I’ve only had fast-food once and I really haven’t missed it.  If anything I can go without it.  It’s okay to have a snack or two on the go, but no way in the world would I be eating fast-food every single day it’s just not good for your body.  No matter what the countless commercials say about Subway or all these health filled meals at various restaurants; if you’re not preparing it you really have no idea as to what goes into it.

The loads of fat, saturated fat, sugars, sodium and calories alone would make one pass out if they knew just what they were eating.  That’s why most chains do not openly display the calorie count next to their items.  If patrons knew just what they were consuming, they’d likely pass on eating anything at the restaurant. For every single McDonalds, Wendy’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, White Castle, Subway, Checkers, Dominos, Pizza Hut and every other fast-food chain out there, there are tons of grocery stores as well.

My argument is not to stop people from eating fast-food because let’s face it it’s a tough task to attempt to accomplish.  I want people to be wise to not eat it every single day.  Have a home cooked meal, talk to the family while cooking and enjoy the opportunity to put something healthy into your body compared to something that isn’t so good for you.
