NEW YORK—Tennis titans Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal can add another grand slam to their accolades.  Both athletes took home the top prize at this year’s ceremony.  Williams defeated her opponent Victoria Azareknka who didn’t make things easy during the match.

Williams was able to take out Azareknka in three sets 7-5, 6-7(6), 6-1 on Sunday, September 8.  This is Serena’s 17th Grand Slam title in her career. During the tense match-up, Williams did indeed fling her racket, but was able to pull her composure together to take the win.

Nadal defeated Novak Djokovic in four sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 on Monday, September 9. Some would say Djokovic never had a shot against powerhouse Nadal who captured his 13th Grand Slam. Some would argue things would have been different if Nadal was facing off against nemesis Roger Federer.

This is Nadal’s second U.S. Open win and caps off a stellar year for the tennis titan who has a record of taking home 10 titles this season.
