Award Shows Galore!
Posted by Rose Quintiliano on Feb 8, 2013 - 10:55:01 PM

HOLLYWOOD—The month of February is always an extraordinary one, since it's the month of Super Bowl, the Grammys and the Oscars. The Super Bowl is always the very best reality television, a real-time game of crushing blows, knife-edge suspense and anguished looks- and that’s just from the commercials. Beyonce's half-time performance was a divalicious Super Bowl performance so hot that it created a power surge.
LL CoolJ is hosting the 55th Annual Grammy Awards

The 55th Annual Grammy Awards will take place on February 10 and air on CBS with host LL Cool J. The Grammys are always consistently entertaining, full of glitz and glamour. New performers have been added to the show including Alicia Keys and Maroon 5, who will perform together. Artists from Taylor Swift to Elton John will grace the stage with many surprises. Justin Timberlake will be making his first live TV music performance in seven years. The Grammys are the granddaddy of all music awards, dating back for decades; it is to music what the Oscars are to the movies. Grammy is short for "gramophone," since the awards are shaped like the old-fashioned phonographs. The Grammys over the years have played tug-of-war between L.A. and New York. Since 2004, the award show has moved back to L.A. and has remained there. This year's show will definitely be full of surprises and show-stopping performances.

From the West Coast to the East Coast, the award's season is the sun around which all moments in Hollywood orbit. The meteor showered the drumbeat of bling and reached a crescendo with the 1st annual International Portuguese Music Awards gala on February 1, in Fall River, Massachusetts. The Portuguese Cultural Center was where International pop star Roberto Leal launched his new book "As Minhas Montanhas," (My Mountains), touching the hearts and souls of the audience with his words of wisdom. Among the highlights of the evening, were the top-of-the-line, jaw-dropping fashion shows that would make fashionistas think they were at Fashion Week in New York City. Designer Lucia Aguiar and her gorgeous models unveiled her kaleidoscope of sequined body-hugging column gowns and dresses that would heat up any red carpet awards show. The last leggy model wore a beautiful bridal gown that was breathtaking. The lobby featured display cases of jewelry designer John Medeiros. Inside the reception the tables were meticulously adorned with beautiful centerpieces by Milestone Flowers.

The gala was a prelude for the IPMA on February 2 at the Zeiterion Theater in New Bedford, Massachusetts which was sold-out. The spectacular theater looks like one of the last standing 1920's movie palaces, full of architectural brilliance with a French-Baroque interior. The International Portuguese Music Awards was the mastermind of Gary Sebastiao, David Saraiva, Eric Amaral, Floriano Cabral and Jose Xavier. The Lifetime Achievement award went to Roberto Leal, the Portuguese-Brazilian singer whose career has earned him over thirty golden records and five platinum records. He is adorned by millions all over the world with his dynamic vocal range and genuine, emotional love for others.

Nick Pedro, who was on Season 6 of "American Idol," won two trophies, (Song of the Year,) and (Pop). The "New Talent,” award went to singer John Jorge. Piloco "Pina Colada" from Luxemburg won the “Dance,” award. The "Rap/Hip-Hop" award went to Mr. J. Medeiros who was in L.A. recording. The "Rock,” award went to Eratoxica." The "Traditional/Jazz/Classical" award went to Jordan Paiva. The "People's Choice Award," went to O Manel dos d'Alma. The "Popular" category went to singer Jorge Ferreira a much-deserved winner who ended the show and brought down the house with all his hit songs. The show will air at a future date across Portuguese-speaking countries.

Rose's Scoop: D J Pauly D " Jersey Shore," has a new single titled "Back to Love," with Jay Sean.
