Celebrities And Cruise Ships!
Posted by Rose Quintiliano and Kelly Olszuk on Jun 24, 2012 - 5:28:56 PM

HOLLYWOODSummer is officially here, and celebrities just like us love to board cruise chips.

Once upon a time traveling aboard a cruise ship was the ultimate in luxury, only the very rich would travel. Today it’s quite affordable, and tres chic. While cruise ships won’t name drop celebrities that have boarded their ships, we know who you are. Some of the rich and famous have boarded Crystal Cruises, with penthouse suites starting at $20,000 and up. It’s geared to young  families and it’s child-friendly features are entertaining. Cunard is a little bit less with rates starting from $11,000.

A little bit less extravagant is the Lindblad expeditions.  This cruise is really an investigation into the natural landscape. A typical day during the journey includes spotting whales and orcas, hopping on a Zodiac to head to lands rarely explored  by man, or visiting the Icelandic island of Grimsey. The Viking saga runs from $18,000. The Orion Expedition Cruises  offer shore stops  at wharfs, for close-ups of penguins, seals, and some of the earth’s most ratified landscapes. A deluxe suite runs $29,000 and up.

The Regent Seven Seas cruise lines offers a penthouse suite with a butler service on the “Indian Ocean Odyssey,’’ which start from $32,000. The yachts of Seabourn offer vessels for under 500 guests. A typical cruise offers guests three full days in St. Petersburg, Russia before exploring the 13th-century medieval architecture of Estonia, Stockholm, Helsinki and Germany. The Veranda suites start from $8,000 and up.

Then of course, there are the cruises crowded full of noisy children aboard, such as the Disney Cruises.Tiger Woods, ex-wife Elin had whisked her daughter Sam,6, and son Charlie,3, on a Disney cruise to celebrate Sam's birthday in the Bahamas when trouble began brewing and Elin’s new beau whisked them off the ship, reports the Enquirer. Elin, could certainly afford something more than a Disney cruise, since she pocketed a reported $100 million in 2009 with her divorce to Tiger Woods. According to reports, her new beau is wealthy investor Jamie Dingman.

With summer and vacations come books. One of the top reads is “Beautiful Ruins” by Jess Walter. The 350-page beach read is a masterpiece, compelling and entertaining .I really don’t want to give the plot away because the book unfolds and comes together reflecting on our culture and the way we think and live. The book brings laughter and tears. I cannot recommend this book enough, it’s beautifully written. The author has a gift pf observation and storytelling.

Another family vacation novel is from one of my favorite states titled “Maine, ”by J. Courtney Sullivan. The book is about a very dysfunctional family, that own a lovely cottage in Maine. Most of the book is full of flashbacks, which some might find annoying telling stories of the members back home. All in all, the book unfolds through the eyes and voices of the women. Enjoyable book!

Rose’s Scoop: The book that everyone is talking about is “Fifty Shades of Grey,” by E. L. James, which is very controversial and has been banned by several libraries.
