Celebrities Giving From The Heart!
Posted by Rose Quintiliano on Nov 8, 2009 - 6:22:02 PM

HOLLYWOOD—With the holidays just weeks away, celebrities are already finding ways to improve the lives of the less fortunate. While society may call it “Giving back” it should be called “Giving from the kindness of your heart.” Truth be told, you didn’t take anything from the less fortunate that you have to give back. You are giving because it’s the right thing to do and you’re a giving person. Rachael Ray plans to serve an early Thanksgiving dinner to a community in Ohio slammed by job losses. People in Wilmington will have free dinner on November 8 at the local convention center. The talk show host and cookbook author is offering the dinner since thousands of jobs have been lost due to the pullout of delivery company DHL Express. The sympathetic celebrity is apparently not the first as Jay Leno was there in May to perform two free comedy shows.

Madonna has promised electricity to a village in Malawi, the impoverished southern African country where she runs a charity organization and from where she has adopted her two children. Madonna’s Raising Malawi charity already has donated $500,000 for a childcare in the center of the village that feeds and educates 3,000 orphaned children.

Simon Cowell, who recently turned the big 50, showed off his softer side when he became patron of charity Children’s Hospices UK. At a recent visit to announce his patronage, the talent show host judge was a surprise guest for the families and children of the center. Mr. Cowell has supported Chase Hospice in Surrey for four years.

Whether you’re a celebrity or just an Average Joe, everyone should respect each other. After all, charity does begin at home. That also applies to social networking site, Twitter; everyone should treat others with respect. After a change of mind perhaps, British actor Stephen Fry is back. The 52-year-old actor and author, is followed by more than 900,000 people on Twitter. We almost lost him last week, when he threatened to quit Twitter when he wrote: “Think I may have to give up on Twitter. Too much aggression and unkindness around. Pity. Well, it’s been fun.” He wrote that in response to someone who said his tweets were boring. His threat to leave the site prompted a flood of supportive tweets, including my own plea.

Jon Gosselin could do us some good too, if we can pry the camera lens from his Kung-fu grip hands. He's always on some talk show. It seems that he is also reconnecting with his deeper, more spiritual self by studying with an Orthodox rabbi Shmuley Boteach. Rabbi Boteach was the spiritual advisor to Michael Jackson.

Rose’s Scoop: Soccer player Wayne Rooney is the proud daddy of baby boy Kai Wayne Rooney.

Remember Veteran’s Day!
