Cool Teens making Millions!

Just when you need it most, it seems fate sends us someone to lift us up and inspire. If you’ve been reading this column for a few years, you know that every once in a while I’ll write about someone who perhaps is not in the film or music industry, yet is a celebrity nonetheless in my eyes. Alright, you have all heard of MySpace by now. What you probably haven’t heard about is Ashley Qualls. Who’s that? Well, she’s a 17-year-old self-made millionaire from
Detroit who helped my daughter and countless other girls create a layout for their page. Ashley is the founder of whateverlife.com, a free MySpace layouts website. This girl is truly an inspiration to all future entrepreneurs on the Internet. Just to think it all began by designing hot graphics for her friends’ websites, and then it took off by the best form of advertising: word of mouth. Somehow, I feel Miss Qualls will soon grace the cover of either Fortune magazine or Forbes. The numbers are very impressive, with over seven million monthly visitors on her website she will continue to make a difference. We hear she has plans to dabble in the mobile market.
Speaking of teens, the Jonas Brothers are now hotter than ever. They have taken over MySpace, and now it looks like they have dominated YouTube. We hear that they upload videos almost every day. The band is made up of brothers Kevin, Nicholas “Nick” and Joseph “Joe.” The boys hail from Wyckoff, New Jersey. In 2005, they began their career by signing on with Columbia Records. Their first album was titled “It’s About Time,” and was released on
August 8, 2006. By
January 18, 2007, the Jonas Brothers left Columbia Records and signed on with Hollywood Records. According to IMDB, they have appeared on “Zoey 101,” "Hannah Montana,” and “Aquamarine.”
Madonna and concert promoter Live Nation Inc. have recently announced a deal reportedly worth about $120 million over 10 years. The financial terms were not disclosed in the joint statement from the Queen of Pop and Live Nation. In the deal, Live Nation will be in charge of the Material Girl’s music as well as tours, merchandise, and future record releases. As per her prior commitment to Warner, Madge will make one more album, due for release sometime at the start of 2008, and hand over the rights to her back catalogue. Millions in the making!
This season’s “Dancing with the Stars,” is once again entertaining. A little too soon for me to predict; however, it seems “The Cheetah Girls” own Sabrina is in it, to win it. Hard to believe “American Idol” will return in three months. Amazing, how millions tune in to watch, but when it comes to supporting this summer’s 57 Idols Live tours, it was a disappointment. Jordin Sparks, 17, the winner this year will be releasing her self-titled CD next month. From “AI” to Eric Idle’s “Spamalot,” Clay Aiken is headed for Broadway. He’ll be joining the cast of “Monty Python’s Spamalot” on January 18. Aiken is set to play one of the leads, Sir Robin, in the Tony Award-winning musical directed by Mike Nichols, Diane Sawyer’s hubby.
Rose’s Scoop: Soccer superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, as of press time has scored 8 goals in 51 games for the qualifications of the Portuguese national team in the UEFA EURO 2008. The team has some very impressive players, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Makukula (a player to definitely watch), and Ricardo Quaresma. Finally, how long will Ellen DeGeneres be in the dog house?
Wishing everyone a Happy and safe Halloween!
