Hollywood Rockin!
Posted by Rose Quintiliano on Jul 15, 2012 - 7:22:14 PM

HOLLYWOODMick Jagger is a legend as the Rolling Stones’ front man. In the beginning of his musical career, he held onto the thought of journalism, just in case it didn’t work out. It did work out, and his net worth is an estimated 400 million, making him one of the richest rockers out there.

Now imagine if it was the other way around: writers becoming musicians. The Rock Bottom Remainders, as they are called, consist of published writers. The name of the group is actually a mock name from the publishing world for the unsold copies of works that are sold at reduced prices. The founder of the group, Kathi Kamen Goldmark, passed away two months ago and so the rest of the band members are calling it quits.

Master writer Stephen King.

Best-selling author Stephen King, Amy Tan, Maya Angelou, Josh Kelly, Dave Kelly, Greg Iles, Matt Groening, Scott Turow, Roy Blunt Jr, Sam Barry, Roger McGuinn, James McBride, Erasmo Paolo, Mitch Albom, Janine Albom and Ridley Pearson are some of the names that have come and gone through the years. They have been performing for the last twenty years, and have collectively raised over $2 million for charity from their concerts. Imagine Stephen King playing guitar on stage and Amy Tan singing her heart out.

The Remainder’s first performance was back in 1992 at the American Booksellers Association convention in Anaheim, California. As fate would have it, their last concert took place on June 23, 2012 at the annual conference of the American Library Association. The concert raised money for library and information science scholarships. Throughout the years, the band has improved and the multi-talented members have matured into skilled musicians.

With so many bands getting back together for a reunion, it would be great to see Amy Tan shimmer onstage and belt out Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots are Made for Walkin” one more time. Who doesn’t want to see Steven King perform once more? Or  Mitch Albom gyrate to Elvis Presley’s “Jailhouse Rock"?

Since it’s all about charity, it would be great to get someone like Justin Bieber to come on board for a collaboration and head into the studio. Convincing Scooter Braun would be the first challenge, since he discovered the teen idol. Scooter may have his hands full since he recently took over the group, “The Wanted.” “The Glad You Came” hitmakers are delighted to have Scooter Braun manage them, and they are set for high-profile tracks with Bieber and Chris Brown. The group has begun writing and feels it is Justin-worthy, according to Scotland’s Daily Record newspaper.

If Justin Bieber is unattainable, then the new Justin Bieber is Austin Mahone. The 16-year-old You Tube sensation has taken the airwaves by storm with his second single “Say Somethin.” Mahone has over 800,000 followers on Twitter and over 400,00 subscribers on You Tube. Just like the Beliebers, his fans have been dubbed “Mahomies.”

Rose’s Scoop: ABC family premiered on July 11 “The Beverly Hills Nannies.” Only in Beverly Hills!
