Internet Sensation!

VARIOUS—Unless you’ve been living under a rock, there’s a good chance you’ve already heard of the jaw-dropping performance of internet sensation Susan Boyle. Trust me, you can’t judge a book by its cover. The performance of the 48-year-old, cheeky-looking, woman auditioning for “Britain’s Got Talent” will leave anyone speechless and amazed. I know I was. The church volunteer from Scotland has taken the world by storm, with her unique and humble ways. Her performance on the TV show was brilliant, and the YouTube videos of her performance have received more than 30 million hits hence leading to worldwide publicity. Ms. Boyle, who says in the video that she’s never been married, never been kissed and lives with her cat Pebbles, went on stage to skeptical looks from the shocked audience and judges. When she sang “I Dreamed a Dream” from “Les Miserables” the audience went wild and even charmed “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell. Just weeks ago she was known by locals as the woman who lived alone with her cat and occasionally sang at the pub’s karaoke night. Her sudden popularity has everyone watching, especially anyone trying to get into the music industry over 30 years old. You know it's hard.
This is huge, since it’s not every day you see an ordinary woman become an overnight sensation. It captures the power of the people, and those that support the art of a beautiful voice, looking beyond beauty. This incredible singer is truly an inspiration to many, who never get the so called “showbiz break.” Susan’s local paper, the West Lothian Courier, has even likened her impact in America to that of the Beatles four decades ago. Everyone is rooting for Susan Boyle, hoping she’s one of the two finalists who will battle it out on May 30, and hoping in their hearts she will win. The Fab Four aside, Simon Cowell would be pleased if her success mirrored the 2007 winner Paul Potts. His goose-bumps-performance has now made him a multi-million-dollar record deal with talks under way of making a Hollywood movie based on his life. You may remember him as the former Carphone Warehouse employee from Wales. “There are some acts that you haven’t seen yet. It’s not quite the one horse race you are going to think it is,” Cowell says, according to the BBC. Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore have been credited with helping Britain’s Got Talent contestant Susan Boyle achieve global internet fame.
If anyone can help, it’s Ashton, for now, he’s the king of Twitter. However, there may be a new challenger-Oprah. Kutcher triumphed over CNN in their much-ballyhooed race to be the first to be a millionaire on the micro-blogging Web site. Ashton surpassed that benchmark on April 17, narrowly edging out the Time Warner Inc.-owned network. The 31-year-old Kutcher and wife Demi Moore use Twitter, and won over the online community by constantly interacting with fans. The couple often post family photos and chat to celebrity friends including rap mogul P. Diddy. Oprah Winfrey, whose entry caused ripples across Twitter, gained 130,000 followers in less than a day. Oh-the power of Oprah. Yes, Miss Oprah sent her first “tweet.”
Rose’s Scoop: A close call for “Dancing with the Stars” champ Helio Castroneves. A federal jury acquitted him on six counts of tax evasion but hung on one count of conspiracy. In Portuguese, he thanked God and expressed profound relief. David Archuleta will open for Demi Lovato’s concert tour across the country. If you want to have a sweet day, you can catch them at Hershey, PA, on August 21.
