Life In The Fast Lane!

“It is our choices…that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
—J.K. Rowling
Talk about preplanning. The New York Daily News is reporting that the expiration date on the marriage of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony is right after Valentine’s Day. According to a friend of the power couple that spilled the beans to the paper they’re making Anthony’s Madison Square Garden show on Feb. 14 their final appearance as a couple. The pal says, “Jennifer is planning on joining Marc onstage for a surprise duet.” You may recall that rumors have been flying for a while now, that the couple is headed for splitsville. The proud parents of twins Max and Esme renewed their vows last February in Vegas, but things have since changed, with reports of epic arguments and both being spotted without their wedding bands.
Michael Jackson decided to leave his mansion in Bel Air and stopped in at a Santa Monica bookstore on New Year’s Eve, according to Britain’s Daily Mail. That should put to rest the rumors swirling around by a biographer who claimed the singer was close to death and needed a lung transplant. Michael greeted fans from his vehicle, signed autographs and accepted gifts through the vehicle‘s window. Jackson was spotted browsing books while surrounded by an entourage of security who shielded him from the paparazzi by an umbrella. That explains it. I guess whoever opened up the umbrella indoors, gets the seven years of bad luck.
They say it comes in threes. First it was Hollywood actor Matt Dillon’s speeding arrest, who allegedly was going 106 mph in a 65 mph zone in the town of Newbury, Vermont. He was caught speeding in a 2009 Chevrolet Impala, said Vermont State Police Sergeant Tara Thomas. The 44-year-old actor is scheduled to appear in Vermont’s Orange County on January 21. If he is convicted, he is subject to pay a $300 fine and faces a maximum penalty of three months in jail. Matt Dillon was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in “Crash.” Then there were the DUI charges against Charles Barkley. Now we heard of “Trading Spaces” designer Doug Wilson, who was booked in his home state of Illinois after failing to yield to a police vehicle, according to E! Online. Get this, he was booked with aggravated DUI driving with a suspended license, unlawful transportation of alcohol, and failing to yield right-of-way to an emergency vehicle.
What is going on? You can now add actor and playwright Sam Shepard to the list of life in the fast lane. On January 3, Shepard was arrested on preliminary charges of speeding and drunken driving. The 65-year-old actor was driving 16 mph over the 30 mph speed limit. Police Lt. Mark Kotte says a breath test indicated Shepard’s blood-alcohol level was double the legal limit. Shepard had told police he had been at a tavern in Bloomington and was heading to a hotel. Shepard won the 1979 Pulitzer Prize for drama for his play “Buried Child.”
John Travolta’s 16-year-old son, Jett, died on January 2, after suffering a seizure and hitting his head on a bathtub while vacationing with his family at the Old Bahama Bay Resort Hotel on Grand Bahama Island, police said. The family arrived in the Bahamas on Dec. 30 on a private plane flown by Travolta himself. How sad and tragic it must be for a parent to mourn the loss of a child. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
John Travolta was scheduled to appear on Jan. 11 at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards where his latest movie, “Bolt” is nominated for best Animated Feature and best Original Song for his duet with co-star Miley Cyrus, “I Thought I Lost You.” Meanwhile, E! Online, reported that there is no word yet on whether John Travolta has officially cancelled his next scheduled public appearance after the tragedy, as of press time. Attorneys told reporters that it’s likely Jett’s body will be flown back to Florida where he will be buried. The couple, John Travolta and actress Kelly Preston, have been married since 1991.
Rose’s Scoop: The UK’s fastest-selling DVD of all time is “Mamma Mia!” It sold more than 1.6 million copies on the first day of its release, according to reports. The previous sales record was held by “Titanic,” which sold 1.1 million DVDs on its first day.
