HOLLYWOOD—Lisa Marie Presley is back, with a vengeance! Her latest album, “Storm & Grace,” was released on May 15, 2012. This is her third attempt, after she punched out two other pop albums back in 2003 and 2005. The two other pop albums didn’t work because she was trying to branch out of her father’s footsteps and while people ventured out to see her, it was disappointing. From the beginning she should have taken a closer look to Elvis’ sound and in the process capturing his fans. Until now, no one has really heard the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s daughter perform with a closer sound to Elvis.

This time, Miss Presley has been making the rounds with promoting her latest CD, with performing on “American Idol,” the “Tonight show,” and “Jimmy Kimmel.” Lisa Marie Presley has always been a private person never reflecting on her personal life including short lived marriages to Danny Keough, Nicolas Cage and Michael Jackson. She does have a new manager , American Idol creator Simon Fuller, perhaps that is why her music is going forward. I caught her performance back in 2005, at the famed Stone Pony. She has also turned back to her roots which is “Graceland,” which can be seen on the cover of her CD. Graceland has always been important to her father’s fans, and with this in mind it will definitely intrigue the masses of Elvis fans from Japan to Hawaii and everywhere in between. Speaking of Hawaii, the soundtrack of what was to be Elvis’s biggest movie “Blue Hawaii,” called for some of Hawaiianesque flavor and beats, and of course, one of the most memorable songs was “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” While none of the songs on the album were composed by Elvis himself, he still received royalties.
A spectacular, "Las Vegas, Hawaiian style," live concert featuring “Elvis and an all- star cast of tribute artists can be seen at the newly renovated Royal Hawaiian Theater in Hawaii. You can see Elvis the legend with “Rock-A-Hula,” a live concert at the theater. “Rock-A-Hula was taken from the movie “Blue Hawaii.” The spectacular sound and lighting deliver a world class tribute to the King of Rock n ’Roll along with other musical legends including Elton John, Michael Jackson, Madonna and Lady Gaga.
There is no denying that the Hawaiian Islands have been a major locale for filming hundreds of television shows such as “Hawaii Five-O,” which is in its third season and currently in hiatus till filming begins at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. There is currently a store inside the Hilton, which caters to all “Hawaii Five-O,” fans from T-shirts to mugs. The Academy Award-nominated movie, “ The Descendants,” starring George Clooney was filmed in Hawaii as well. On O’ahu, there was the recent filming of “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.” along the island’s eastern shores. Some of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters movies and TV shows were, and still are, filmed in Hawaii. From “Jurassic Park to “50 First Dates,” and “Lost,” they all have famous film shots in common. The movie “Just Go With It,” was filmed in Maui and “Waterworld,” on the Big Island of Hawai’i.
Rose’s Scoop: While in O’ahu, a must-stop is Leonard’s bakery, famous for its famous Portuguese malasadas. You never know if Dwayne “The Rock,” Johnson will stop in, it’s his favorite bakery.
Wishing everyone a happy, safe Memorial Day weekend!
