Making Waves!
Posted by Rose Quintiliano on Sep 8, 2012 - 6:31:20 PM

HOLLYWOODTheir tans haven’t quite faded, the temperatures are still very hot, but it’s that time of the year to trade in the bathing suits and surf boards for North Face backpacks, textbooks and No. 2 pencils.Once again parents are doing some serious back-to school shopping miles. The  Labor Day weekend was full of surprise, when rescuers had no idea that the bald, bearded man they just saved off Long Island, New York  was none other than Hollywood movie star Russell Crowe.  The 48-year-old “Master and Commander,” actor is in New York preparing for his role as Noah in a new film shooting on location in Oyster Bay. According to published reports Crowe and a pal were lost for 4 ½ hours while kayaking in Long Island. Memo to Russell Crowe: You must be prepared and bring some sort of navigation tools, after dark it is almost impossible to find your way back in Long Island.

Ironically, it was around the same time three years ago that Annette Sharp, gossip columnist for Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, learned that to land a bike date with Russell Crowe was to mock the Australian actor for taking a cigarette break while chowing down three tacos and a soft drink during a ride with his personal trainer. He then asked the writer to join him for a 12-mile bike ride, which she struggled. Crowe looks a bit beefier these days than in recent years perhaps its for his new role as Noah.

Making waves is the little sister of the Duchess of Cambridge, Pippa Middleton. According to published reports she was seen in the Hamptons with dashing hotelier Andre Balazs. They played pingpong at his hotel Sunset Beach and then dined together. The suave Balazs has been linked to celebrities such as Uma Thurman and Chelsea Handler. We’ll se if the two will become an item, since Pippa has been linked on/off with boyfriend Alex Loudon back in London. The weekend of Labor Day, Middleton was seen partying in the meatpacking district, according to Page Six. Middleton has written a book titled “Celebrate: A Year of Festivities for Families and Friends,” which is scheduled  for release  by publisher Viking  on Oct. 30 for a retail price of $50. As of press time, no one has seen the inside of the book just yet, it will be full of advice to fall in line with that of the “Party Times,” an online party magazine that she edits for the family’s company, “Party Pieces. The 400-page book is a useful and practical journey into British-themed occasions that offers inspiration and ideas. Entertaining on any scale can very stressful and daunting so this book is all about finding ways to manage and enjoy the entertaining process.

Celebrating in style was Beyonce who celebrated her 31st birthday on a luxury yacht in the Mediterranean on Sept. 4. The beautiful singer and her hubby Jay-Z celebrated her special day with their nine-month-old daughter, Blue Ivy. Gwyneth Paltrow and Michele Williams ere among the stars who marked Beyonce’s big day by writing birthday wishes on her official website.

Rose’s Scoop: Birthday wishes go out to singer Pink and writer Kelly Olszuk who both celebrate their birthday on Sept. 8.
