The year 2007 came to an end with television put on indefinite, super depressing hold by the Writers Guild of America strike; however the first 10 or 11 months offered superb TV memories to last during the strike season, including the farewell of The Sopranos. So what’s in store for 2008? On January 15, American Idol returns. Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson are back, along with host Ryan Seacrest. The fun actually begins about 8 weeks into the show, and sometime in March we’ll see the final 18.
The New Year will begin with the release of Jack Nicholson’s new film, The Bucket List, which co-stars Morgan Freeman. Nicholson, 70, one of the greatest talents in
Hollywood says he drew on his own experience in the hospital for his new film. Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, 70, co-star as cancer patients who decide to travel the world following their wish list of things to do before they die. “A lot of this movie was informed by my being not what I thought I would be, an excellent patient, but rather a poor one,” Nicholson told reporters recently, according to AP radio. “That happened by coincidence just before this movie,” he said. “Nothing as frightening as what these fellows had to go through,” Freeman, 70, said one of the things on his bucket list was working with Nicholson. “He’s a prince of a man. Wonderful to work with. Very, very professional, otherwise he wouldn’t be where he is,” Freeman said. “I’ve always thought that he’s just one of the best we’ve got.” The film, a Warner Bros. release, was directed by Rob Reiner and will be in theaters on January 11. The film was shown as part of the Aspen Film Academy Screenings on
December 26, 2007. Nicholson, we hear, also owns a home in
Aspen.
Rehab romances aren’t always the best idea. Just ask sultry starlet Lindsay Lohan. Ex-boyfriend Riley Giles blabbed to the British tabloid News of the World about their intimate relationship. The charming guy went on a kiss and tell rampage, according to MSNBC. Now, he’s trying to make a profit by selling photos he took of Lohan while they were together. Lohan and Giles - who according to reports dumped his other girlfriend to date the actress - split up after Thanksgiving. If that wasn’t enough, LiLo says she was sober when her Mercedes crashed into a van in front of The Ivy near
Beverly Hills, according to a declaration filed a few weeks ago in Los Angeles Superior Court. The van’s driver is suing Lohan and the restaurant and says the actress, now 21, had been drinking before the crash. The injured driver, Raymundo Ortega, alleges Lohan had been drinking before the crash, and is seeking at least $200,000 in damages from Lohan and the restaurant. In the declaration, Lohan stated: “I did not consume an alcoholic beverage or any type of medication or drug” either before or during her restaurant visit. The server at the restaurant confirmed that Lohan didn’t order alcohol. A
Los Angeles police officer, who was providing security for The Ivy that day, also said he didn’t see Lohan drinking. So what’s in store for LiLo in 2008?
