National Ice Cream Month
Posted by Camille Sarabia on Jul 25, 2013 - 9:26:31 AM

CALIFORNIA—Sunday, July 21 was declared the national ice cream holiday in 1984 by President Regan and now the current smart phone app technology is making the holiday easier for consumers to enjoy.

Declared by President Regan, the national ice cream month, presiding every July, promotes the popularity of ice cream and supports local ice cream vendors.

In celebration of this month, Uber Ice Cream Company has created a smart phone app via Android or iPhone that delivers ice cream straight to your location.  On Friday, July 19, this ice cream delivering system went global by delivering ice cream to 33 cities across 10 countries.  This included: Los Angeles, San Diego and other high populated cities, as well as international cities such as Sydney and Toronto.

Depending on each city, the prices varied between $20 for 5 people ($4) or $36 for 6 people ($6).  Each consumer was charged directly to his or her Uber account online.

Pairing with local companies such as Frostee Treats or Mister Softee, Uber’s trucks were on the road from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.

The Uber Ice Cream turnout was successful as expected.  Uber put a warning via twitter stating that, “Keep in mind that #UBERICECREAMavailability will be VERY LIMITED and it will be competitive to get a truck,” and their second year was certainly a success.

After their 6 hour ice cream run on Friday, Uber sent out this message: “Last scoops! #UBERICECREAMhas come to an end after delivering to *thousands* of people around the world,” to celebrate their celebration of national ice cream month.
