Held in conjunction with the exhibition Damián Ortega: The Beetle Trilogy and Other Works, this one-day class guides students through the basic concepts of performance while exploring their own life-cycle event. Tours of both the MOCA exhibition and the partner exhibition at REDCAT will begin the day, followed by a series of exercises that investigate and represent cycles of life through performance and installation. O’Brien’s poems and prose have appeared in The American Poetry Review, the Boston Review, Fence, the Denver Quarterly, Volt, and other publications. His most recent volume of poems is The Guns and Flags Project (University of California Press, 2002). He is a lecturer at the University of California at Berkeley, where he teaches in creative writing and literature.
