Roller Coaster Roachery

UNITED STATES — In a PETA-denounced, horror-inducing, Fear Factor-reminiscent stunt, the Six Flags amusement/theme park conglomerate offered a Halloween-season special for patrons at select parks: eat a live cockroach and skip to the front of the line!

Victorious roach eaters receive four front-of-the-line passes to various rides and attractions, along with the added bonus of a three-inch Madagascar cockroach marinating in the digestive juices of their bellies. Six Flags hosts Fright Fest annually to provide Halloween revelers with thrills and horror galore, from haunted houses, to mysterious park-wandering ghouls, and eerie additions to the roller coaster rides.

In response to cease-and-desist demands from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Six Flags officials claim that roaches are no different from any other animal flesh dishes served at the park.

On a diet? Worry not! Cockroaches are Atkins-friendly: low in fat, high in protein, and a surefire appetite killer.

See You Later, Alligator...

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Unwilling to settle for a cute little puppy or a friendly little hamster, Enrique Yu Castillo decided he must have his crocodiles - Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau be damned!

When the Wildlife Traffic Monitoring division of the airport rejected Castillo's request for a permit to import the endangered Siamese crocodiles, Castillo decided to take matters into his own carry-on luggage. Yes, he traveled with living reptiles in his possession. Without the Transportation Security Administration to make his excursion a living hell, Castillo flew from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to Singapore, to Manila before the forewarned Philippine airport authorities confiscated the three crocodiles in his baggage.

50-year-old Castillo had apparently been claiming that he was really transporting live fish. Rather sharp teeth for a fish, if I do say so myself... Anyway, each of the little critters measured in at a little under two feet, and usually grow to a length of about 10 feet. Since this breed of rare crocs teeters on the brink of extinction, import or export is strictly prohibited.

Ashes to Ashes, Dust to ... Diamonds?

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, ILLINOIS — Want to live forever? Always been considered "precious"? Well, don't miss this chance to become the blingiest-bling this side of the solar system - call up LifeGem Memorials (!

The five-year-old company creates everlasting memorials by converting cremation ashes or human hair into diamonds through a high heat, high pressure, and highly expensive carbon bonding procedure. Prices for the diamonds range from $3,000 - $25,000, depending on the quantity purchased and of course, the carat size.

Recently, LifeGem Memorials partnered up with Guinness Book Record holder John Renikoff, collector extraordinaire of celebrity hair, to raise publicity, AND money for charity by creating diamonds from Ludwig van Beethoven's hair. After a world tour, these diamonds will be auctioned off to raise funds for military families. Other celebrities are encouraged to donate strands of hair for diamonds which can later be sold to generate money for their favorite charities.

LifeGem also offers family plans and pet plans. Why not? After all, diamonds are forever...
