Ms. Journo, That's Amore
Posted by Tommy Garrett on Apr 13, 2008 - 8:07:19 PM

If you are ever walking the trendy LA streets near Patricia Journo’s studio, please stop by. The chic and elegant boutique/studio is run by a French goddess named Patricia Journo, who has a little angel guiding her every move. That angle is her daughter, Liza, who helps her mother in every step of her life and career. Journo has made Los Angeles her home after having grown up in France. Journo has lost both of her parents and even a sibling, so it was on a trip five years ago that she and daughter Liza decided to move to the city.

Patricia Journo, the artist herself.

Journo relates how a talent scout and agent walked over to her while she and then five-year-old Liza were having lunch at a trendy Melrose Avenue outdoor café with a friend. “The lady came over, she handed me her business card. She told me that she’d been watching Liza for 30 minutes or so and saw all of the different expressions that she conveyed during her conversation with us. She said, get your daughter acting lessons, and make sure she’s trained in the arts. She’d be perfect for ‘The Lion King,’ which I am casting on stage right now,” Journo said. She was very impressed with the lady, who explained that she’d had over 25 years of experience in casting children.

"When we returned home to France, my little Liza said, 'mom, if we ever move, I want it to be there, Hollywood!'" So it was. The two are inseparable. Liza is perhaps her mother’s inspiration, her muse. But not just for her career, but their private life as well. Speaking to Patricia Journo is one of the most fascinating and romantic things a single guy in Hollywood can do. Her style is one of a kind. “I don’t go with fashion trends,” Journo said, adding, “I like to find a style for the person that I meet. Sometimes a client will come in, say I want this or that and then I look at her and tell her, call me in two days. I will often design something just for her.” And she often designs things extremely elegant and spectacular.

Her Third Street location is close to everything. Boutiques along this corridor are sometimes the beginning of stardom in Tinseltown. Journo finds being a mother very rewarding and it is her most important vocation in life. But style is in her blood. It’s just as simple to Patricia Journo as flight is to a nightingale. Journo said, “L.A. is very open-minded. People here seem to enjoy new styles and visions. I hope that my business continues to be as rewarding as it has been since moving here a few years ago.” Rewarding for her clients and very lucrative for the designer. When interviewing designers, they usually are basic cookie cutter molds of one another. I have never met a designer with the artistic flair and open spirit that Journo embodies. Spirit, that’s the word that describes her eclectic tastes and styles. While at her very elegant boutique, women walk in and out, rarely leaving without a garment or two. She has something for everyone. Tourists also find her place a hot spot. It’s really fascinating to see her interact with others. She is the embodiment of style, class, and elegance.

A believer in karma and soul, Patricia Journo often says, “My fashions are about belief. Belief in oneself and in what you wear. I want every fabric, every piece of clothing that leaves this place to make a woman feel confident in herself. To feel like she believes in herself and her goals in life.” Maintaining such high standards is nothing new for this designer. She’s been making her own way for her entire life. She was raised by wonderful parents who believed in her and made her believe in not only her talents and skills, but in others as well. Journo adds, “When I see my little angel Liza and ask her opinion of something. One thing I can always count on is truth. That helps me when dealing with the public. I am open-minded to their vision, what they want to see for themselves and I make sure that they don’t walk out of this shop without feeling good about what they’ve purchased.”

Elegant and sensual French accent just comes with the service. Journo is one of Hollywood’s rising stars in fashion. Every year, CBS’s top rated daytime drama, “The Bold & the Beautiful” has a fashion show. Wouldn’t it be funky and yet sexy and interesting to showcase Ms. Journo’s one-of-a-kind designs on the runway for the Forrester’s next fashion show? Better get to Journo’s studio before she moves to the walks of Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. One of her customers told me, “What I love about Patricia is that she meets and gets to know her clients, and she’s aware of body image and what the person wants and then she has the vision to look inside and see what would make your spirit whole when wearing her designs.”

Patricia Journo has it all over Vera Wang and others. I’ve never seen such talent and beauty in one person or her designs. Journo is the real deal in fashion. You can find Ms. Journo’s boutique at, 6240 W 3rd Street, Ste. 420, Los Angeles, California 90036.
