Emmy Worthy Ladies Of Daytime
Posted by Tommy Garrett on Dec 11, 2010 - 4:20:56 PM

HOLLYWOOD—Daytime television would not exist without these three ladies. All totaled, the beauties have over three quarters of a century of acting talent, and even though they play bold, beautiful, young and restless characters, they are actresses who are the epitome of class and beauty. Susan Flannery, who portrays Queen Stephanie Forrester on CBS’s “The Bold and the Beautiful,” and Susan Lucci, who portrays the iconic diva Erica Kane on ABC’s “All My Children,” are both Emmy winners. However, wouldn’t it be great if this year Tracey Bregman, who portrays Lauren Fenmore Baldwin on CBS’s “The Young and the Restless,” received an Emmy nomination for her fine performance? There would not be one disappointed fan of Ms. Bregman’s if she received what she so justly deserves.

Susan Flannery’s exceptional year is hardly over. After Stephanie battled the younger and less intelligent wife of her ex-husband Eric Forrester, she got her husband back. Then she coached her conniving granddaughter to outwit one of L.A.’s most prominent businessmen in order to get their family company back, and when we thought it was going to be a quiet autumn for the silver haired beauty, a cough and a fainting spell proved disastrous for the character. Stephanie was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, which had spread to her brain. A disaster for our favorite “B&B” character, was a golden opportunity for her stunning portrayer Susan Flannery, and for viewers. Bradley P. Bell put his pen on paper, or is it fingers to the keyboard? Whatever he did, “B&B” is winning over critics and viewers all over again. Ms. Flannery’s performance only gets better with each passing episode. If Susan Flannery is not nominated for this year’s unstoppable work, then the wrath of god will come crashing down on all of us in Tinseltown, for she’s most deserving.

Susan Lucci

Susan Lucci made a brave decision to tackle Hollywood after “All My Children” decided to move to L.A. from their studio of over 40 years in Manhattan. La Lucci as Regis Philbin calls her surprised no one with the great performances she’s poured out over this past year. However, what is amazing is how inspiring she makes her character to viewers. Men lust after Erica Kane and women want to be her. Ms. Lucci’s been nominated more times than some politicians have political offices, but this is a year that she is deserving yet again of a Daytime Emmy nomination for Best Lead Actress.

Then there was one. The one and only Tracey Bregman, who this year accomplished more on screen than Bette Davis did in a decade. Perhaps like Davis’s performance in “Now, Voyager” Bregman was able to portray so many amazing characters on one show. Her alter ego Lauren Fenmore Baldwin has been stalked and almost killed countless times by the most evil and dangerous woman in the western world. Sheila may be dead, or so we think, but this year Sheila’s evil sister Sarah came to Genoa City to kill her sister’s longtime nemesis.

Tracey played Lauren, and she also played Sarah. Then for weeks she had to portray Sarah pretending to be Lauren and also, Lauren pretending to be Sarah to fool Sarah’s evil niece Daisy and nephew Ryder. How Tracey kept up with Maria Arena Bell’s amazing storyline roller-coaster ride, I’ll never know. However, along with Tracey deserving an Emmy nomination, so should her head writer and executive producer, Ms. Bell. Tracey Bregman is a gifted thespian, who is on a path to screen legend.

The 2011 Daytime Emmy awards will air in June.
