For Your Daytime Consideration

HOLLYWOOD—Rarely have I gone all out and asked, even begged, the Academy to consider the work of an actor for an Emmy. But Katherine Kelly Lang of “The Bold and the Beautiful” is deserving of such action. The beautiful damsel who portrays the ever sexy seductress Brooke Logan has in the last five years given performances that are not only Emmy worthy, but should be the gold standard in daytime.

Maybe Lang is so beautiful that her peers in the industry forget to take her seriously? However, two years ago, when Brooke was the survivor of rape at the hands of a man, her nemesis and perennial mother-in-law Stephanie sent to get her attention, Lang was getting kudos and much deserved compliments on her acting from actors on many other television shows in daytime. Finally we thought Lang would get her due. Alas, she did not.

The actress, who was tapped for the role of Brooke Logan by brilliant Bill Bell, Sr., has grown as a performer. Turning on the water works is a regular thing for Brooke, crying usually from her left eye has become something that makes anyone want to hand her a hanky in support. Lang, however, hasn’t aged at all in two decades and has actually become even more beautiful. What is it about Lang that makes people not take her seriously as an actress? Could it be the fact that she’s on a show that is only 30 minutes, not an hour like the other soaps? Could it be that peers in the industry are not sitting down to watch the shows, like we fans do, daily? Whatever it is, it’s senseless. This woman performs at her peak on a daily basis. She never bores the viewers.
Over the years I’ve seen nothing but negative columns and opinion pieces handed out on actors, actresses, writers and producers by the daytime press and mainstream media. This could actually have a negative effect on the performers like Lang, who may not get the attention hour-long players are getting daily. But for anyone who has not seen her work, please, take a look. Bradley Bell is constantly giving his talent the dialog and story lines that are Emmy worthy. He’s been ignored far too long as well. “B&B” is a show that deserves to be honored by the Academy for it’s fine writing, directing, wardrobe, hair and make-up and, yes, acting.
Luckily, Miss Susan Flannery has been honored and, yes, she deserves every award she’s received and then some. But I bet Miss Flannery would agree with me to ask all of the actors in daytime television to pay attention to her leading lady, her constant on screen nemesis. Miss Katherine Kelly Lang is more than just bold and beautiful. She’s talented and deserving of an Emmy. Let this year be her year, let's show the viewers of daytime and this hit show that we can do the right thing.
Lang’s current leading men, Ronn Moss and Kyle Lowder, and her ever present mother-in-law on the show, Susan Flannery, are helping Lang by giving her the motivation to pour herself into the role, and to give her many gifts, talents and extraordinary acting abilities a workout. I respectfully request your sincere and serious consideration for this matter.
Emmy please!
