HOLLYWOOD—It’s difficult to fathom that Monday was the last time audiences of the daytime soap would see Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) as the mobster, audiences have come to love.   Morgan who is leaving the soap after portraying the character for more than 20 years was shot and presumed dead after being pushed into water.  It was a shocking moment to say the least that has been kept under wraps from the audience.  Fans have known for weeks that the actor would be leaving the show.

For soap fans, it’s a tragic moment.  Jason was finally reunited with his true love, Sam (Kelly Monaco) and their son, Daniel; there’s just one minor twist: Jason is not aware that Daniel is his son and not his evil twin brother, Franco (James Franco). So the happy ending audiences expected will not happen.

Cue the waterworks because many Port Charles citizens will be reeling from the news.  Carly (Laura Wright) who will go to the depths of the Earth for her best friend will become an emotional wreck.  So will her son, Michael (Chad Duell) who considers Jason to be a father figure.  His right-hand man Sonny (Maurice Benard) will have to rely on someone else to do his dirty work now.

It’s ironic in a sense though.  Jason’s former flame Robin (Kimberly McCullough) was presumed dead in a hospital explosion, but was later revealed to be alive and held captive by Duke (Ian Buchanan).  Duke is a merciless fellow to say the least; he holds captive the daughter of the woman he claims to love Anna (Finola Hughes), and he has just killed Robin's best friend, Jason.  Luke (Anthony Geary) is hot on Duke’s trail.  He’s convinced that Duke is an imposter; he just has to obtain the evidence to prove it.  Can't wait until Anna discovers the secrets from Duke's double life.

When Burton first appeared on the soap as Jason Morgan, he was not a crime boss.  It wasn’t until that tragic car accident that Jason’s life would be forever changed thanks to his brother A.J. Quartermaine.  For those who have not been up to date on soap news, Sean Kanan is returning to  “ General Hospital.”  Kanan originated the role of A.J. Quartermaine who was last seen on the small screen in 2005.  Who Kanan will portray when he returns to the soap on Monday, October 29 is top secret, but I’m sure his return will blow fans away.

The effects of Burton’s departure are already being felt on the soap.  That bravado, the protector of Port Charles residents is missing.   So Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) has lost another love, so who will she turn to now that Jason is off the market?  One thing for sure, Jason’s “death” will be felt throughout the city of Port Charles for days to come, just in time for November sweeps.  Audiences should expect some major bombshells to be revealed.  If there is one thing I know about “ General Hospital,” when it comes to November sweeps no soap does it better. “ General Hospital” airs weekdays at 2 p.m. on ABC.
