"Glee" Recap: 'Glease'
Posted by Ivetta Babadjanian on Nov 16, 2012 - 10:39:20 AM

HOLLYWOOD—"Glee" does a fun remake of the classic musical, "Grease," yet still manages to tackle on some emotional scenes.

Mr. Schuester (Mathew Morrison) finally announced to the glee club that he was taking a leave of absence to go Washington D.C. until after sectionals which brought the group into an uproar. They were less than pleased that Finn (Corey Monteith) was named temporary director of New Directions as they didn't think he has the skills to lead them to a victory at sectionals.

Coach Sue (Jane Lynch) opposed Finn's role as director but Principal Figgins (Iqbal Theba) agreed since glee is a extracurricular activity and the leader does not have to be someone with credentials.
"This is just another of your ill-conceived, bizarrely sentimental schemes that displays absolutely no forethought and appears immediately ridiculous to everyone in America except for you," Se told Mr. Schuester before storming off. No one can win an argument against Sue, she has so many zinger's per episode it's hard to keep count.

Finn tries to apologize to her for using an insensitive word to describe her baby but she doesn't accept and is hellbent on making Finn's time as director miserable. Thus, Sue convinces Wade's (Alex Newell) parents that it is not a good idea for him to perform the female role of Rizzo. She also reserves the school auditorium for the Cheerios in order to deter the chances of the New Directions practicing for their upcoming musical performance of "Grease."

Finn has former-graduate, Santana (Naya Rivera) play Rizzo and decides to find a new rehearsal venue. He invites the male glee members to rehearse at the auto repair shop he works at where they practice "Grease Lightning." The performance was fun and Ryder (Blake Jenner) did an excellent interpretation of John Travolta's unique dance moves.

In New York City, Rachel (Lea Michelle) tells her friend and current crush, Brody (Dean Geyer), that she has landed an audition for an off-Broadway production. Her dance instructor, Cassandra (Kate Hudson), overhears and attempts to dissuade her but Rachel is determined to audition and she encourages Casey to do so as well. While helping her warm-up, Kurt (Chris Colfer) convinces Rachel to go to Lima, Ohio in order to support their friend's musical and see their ex-boyfriends. Cassandra, with suspicious kindness, offers the two her frequent flyer miles for their trip.

Back at McKinley, Kitty (Becca Tobin) tampers with Marley's (Melissa Beoist) costume and convinces Marley that she it is in her genetics to become overweight like her mother (Trisha Rae Stahl). Kitty pretends that she is trying to make friends so she invites the girls to a slumber party where she tries to get Marley to binge and purge. Additionally, she mocks her by singing the "Grease" song, "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee."

Rachel and Kurt arrive at McKinley for the musical performance and have an awkward moment with their ex-boyfriends. Blaine (Darren Criss) does an amazing rendition, as usual, of the song "Beauty School Drop Out." The following performance was by Santana, with offstage singing by Wade and Cassandra, in which they each sang verses form "There Are Worst Things I Could Do."

Marley is stressing out backstage and is found by Ryder crying and trying to induce vomit in the bathroom. He manages to cheer her up and sings a reprise of "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee." Ryder kisses Marley, to Jake's (Jacob Artist) disdain, in order to stop her from freaking out before the performance.

The two then do a fun remake of the song "You're the One that I Want" which causes Rachel to imagine herself performing the song to Finn. She calls Brody afterwards for support but Cassandra picks up letting her know that she slept with Brody in spite of Rachel. Rachel is reduced to tears and Finn wants to help her but they end up cutting all ties to each other instead. Kurt also refuses to speak with Blaine as he cannot forgive him for cheating, no matter his reasoning.

The episode ends on a positive note as the glee club's "Grease" performance received positive reviews and Finn finally has power over the group as Mr. Schuester says goodbye to his glee students. In next week's episode, we will finally get to see the glee club under the direction of Finn Hudson and it has something to do with superheroes.
