HOLLYWOOD—This week's episode of "Glee" was fun and carefree as our favorite characters divulged in their secrets in the episode "Guilty Pleasures."
Blaine (Darren Criss) discovers Sam's (Chord Overstreet) guilty pleasure of stealing macaroni to make detailed portraits of celebrities. Instead of not doing an assignment the week that Will (Mathew Morrison) is home sick, Blaine gets the idea for everyone to explore their musical hidden pleasures because he believes it will further unify the group.
Blaine and Sam start off the assignment by singing "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" by Wham! Everyone gets in the spirit as they all dance around in bright colored clothing in true early-80's fashion creating a cheesy yet highly enjoyable performance.
Brittany (Heather Morris) tries to use the week's assignment to try and find the person behind Kitty's (Becca Tobin) attitude by inviting Kitty on her online show, "Fondu For Two." Kitty whispers in Brittany's ear on the show, who later spills the secret to the other glee girls, that Kitty's guilty pleasure is the Spice Girls. Turns out all the girls have a hidden passion for the British girl group so they decide to perform one of their songs together.
The glee girl sing to their guilty pleasure, the Spice Girls.
After some debate, it's decided that Wade (Alex Newell) would be Baby Spice, Marley (Melissa Benoist) would be Posh, Becca would be Ginger, Brittany as Sporty Spice and Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) as Scary Spice. Their performance of the annoyingly catchy song,"Wannabe," was incredibly fun to watch as each person got into character and really let loose in the performance.
Sam's musical guilty pleasure turned out to be Barry Manilow who he believes is "under-appreciated, has amazing hair and has done a helluva lot of good for the world through his light-rock talents." Sam then begins to sing "Copacabana" while wearing purple ruffles and dancing around the choir room. Everyone accepts his love for the singer and many of the male glee members agree with his opinion.
One person whose guilty pleasure is not accepted by the group is Jake (Jacob Artist) as he admits to liking Chris Brown's music. The female glee members are outraged because he physically abused singer Rihanna. Jake commences to make a surprisingly understandable argument that sometimes you have to separate the art from the artist because many artists are not role model material.
The girls remain unconvinced so Jake decides to perform a song by a different Brown, singing "My Prerogative" by Bobby Brown. It turns out later that Jake had no idea that Bobby Brown was not a better choice due to his ill relationship with Whitney Houston. However, the song choice was amazing for Jake as he recreated the song making it current and worth hearing on the radio. His dance moves were especially well choreographed.
It turns out that Blaine is still crushing hard on Sam as he sings Phil Collins' "Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)." Blaine sings beautifully while accompanied with the piano giving the song enough emotion to directly affect the audience. He pretends the song is for Kurt because he is still not ready to tell Sam his feelings since he is afraid he will lose his friendship. It is revealed that Sam knows about Blaine's feelings and tells him that it is no big deal. As they hug it out, Blaine holds on for a little too long while Sam awkwardly asks if he has Lifesavers in his pockets. Turns out Blaine did and they share a laugh over a breath mint.
Back in New York City, Santana (Naya Rivera) has not told Rachel (Lea Michele) about Brody's (Dean Geyer) side job as a gigolo. Kurt (Chris Colfer) knows as well but he wants to wait until after Rachel's audition to let her know but Santana ends up telling her anyway. Rachel is stunned and confronts Brody by handing him cash for a date. Although a low blow, nothing beats cheating on your roommate girlfriend with a number of women for money. The two officially end their relationship when Rachel admits she slept with Finn (Corey Monteith) at Will's wedding and that she still loves him.
Brody and Rachel sing through their heartbreak with Radiohead's "Creep." No performance can truly outshine the original song but the performance on "Glee" as a duet was actually an interesting interpretation that fit the character's current trepidation perfectly.
Santana and Kurt later comfort Rachel and they sing "Mamma Mia" together to try and cheer her up. The New Directions are also performing the song while donned in clothing that ABBA would wear in one of the videos with feathers galore and the guys wearing platform shoes.
Overall, it was mostly a light-hearted episode on "Glee" that was funny and entertaining but mainly posed as a filler episode. "Glee" fans will sadly have to rely on reruns for the next three weeks until the show returns on April 11 for the season's final five episodes.
