"Glee" Recap: 'Sadie Hawkins'
Posted by Ivetta Babadjanian on Jan 24, 2013 - 10:18:45 PM

HOLLYWOOD—"Glee" came back from hiatus with the episode "Sadie Hawkins" where the girls asked out the guys and tangled love interests ensued.

Kurt (Chris Colfer) is trying to find his place among the NYADA students when he comes upon the school's show choir group, Adam's Apples. He considers joining but Rachel (Lea Michele) tells him it would be social suicide as the choir group is considered to be unpopular. Despite Rachel's warning, Kurt is persuaded to see the group perform by Adam, a senior who founded the group. An interesting performance commences of "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-a-Lot but it was sung as though it was a well-versed folk song.

Meanwhile in McKinley High, Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) strives for the school to have its first Sadie Hawkins dance and as Finn (Corey Monteith) was out of ideas on assignments for glee club, he says the girls have to sing to the guy they want to take to the dance. In a surprise twist, Tina sings "I Don't Know How to Love You" from "Jesus Christ Superstar" to none other than Blaine (Darren Criss). All the glee club members were shocked by the performance and Tina is embarrassed when Blaine rejects her offer.

The glee girls sing "Tell Him" by The Exciters.

The other glee girls have a bit more luck as Brittany (Heather Morris) and Marley (Melissa Benoist) sing "Tell Him" by the Exciters. Brittany asks Sam to the dance and Marley asks Jake (Jacob Artist). After agreeing to go the dance with Marley, Jake gets a proposition from Kitty (Becca Tobin) that she'll sleep with him if he goes to the dance with her.

Like a true hormonal teenage boy, Jake considers his options and asks for Puck's (Mark Sailing) advice since he can't decide between the girl that will sleep with him and the girl he actually likes. Puck surprisingly gives good advice by telling Jake to go to the dance with Marley as he will regret it if he chooses Kitty instead. Puck even goes to the trouble of seeing Kitty to tell her to back off and she agrees to do so only if he goes to the dance with her.

When Tina apologizes to Blaine for asking him to the dance it is revealed that she is not the only one with an impossible crush. Blaine tells her he's attracted to Sam (Chord Overstreet) even though Sam is straight and with Brittany. Tina decides that they should go to the dance together and try to have a great night.

At the dance, we see some definite chemistry between Kitty and Puck while they're dancing and it seems some romance between the two will commence in future episodes. Marley and Jake seem to be getting closer as well after Jake promises her she is safe with him. Ryder, on the other hand, seems to have his eye on a cheerleader with a neck brace and glances at her while he sing "I Only Have Eyes For You" by The Flamingos. Tina is falls harder for Blaine and is dissapointed when he rushes off with Sam for an unknown emergency.

It turns out that the glee club may have another shot at Regionals if they can prove that the Warblers cheated by using growth hormones for the former competition. Sam and Blaine bring a Warbler to meet with Finn and who is willing to confess against his team since he does not approve of what they have become.

The best performance of the night was the glee boy's rendition of "No Scrubs" by TLC. Another great performance involved a more recent song as Marley and Unique (Alex Newell) sang a great version of Bruno Mars' "Locked Out of Heaven."

Overall, it was a lukewarm come back for "Glee" and Sue (Jane Lynch) was especially missed. Next week's episode will hopefully turn that around as some of our favorite "Glee" characters will be faced with bearing it all in the episode "Naked."
