The first season followed paparazzi icon Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively), Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester), Nate (Chace Crawford), Chuck (Ed Westwick), Dan (Penn Badgley) and Jenny (Taylor Momsen). The great concept about the series was following two characters, Dan and Jenny, who don’t actually fit in with the rest of the elite, navigate themselves in this wealthy societal class that looks down on them.
It’s the tale of good versus evil, for the first three seasons of the show. Afterwards, things became bit more light toned as the characters grow up and move on with their lives. Of course the sixth season which garnered a total of 10 episodes did enough to keep viewers tuned in until its final moments. Of course we have the whirlwind romance of Chuck and Blair. I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you. They’re those characters that you know, no matter how much they despise the other; they are destined to be together. To see those two finally take the plunge down the aisle was a moment well worth the wait.
There were so many surprises in Monday’s episode. A fun fact that many may not be aware of is that actress Kristen Bell is the narrator for the series and she made a cameo in Monday’s episode. What a special treat for die-hards of the show. Other cameos during the episode included Vanessa (Jessica Szohr), Juliet (Katie Cassidy), Rachel Bilson portraying herself, as well as Jenny and Eric van der Woodsen (Connor Paolo).
There were quite a few curveballs regarding the identity of just who exactly “Gossip Girl” is. I thought it was one secret audiences would never discover, but when it was revealed to be Dan Humphrey who knew. It’s a stunner, but at the same time not so much if you connect the dots. Dan always wanted to be a part of the in crowd, and he had the tools to stay on top of everything, every single moment. It was just clever for audiences to assume that the identity was a woman, but not in this case.
In a tool that has proven successful with many series, the episode fast-forwards 5 years where audiences discover that Dan and Serena have finally tied the knot! Those two lovebirds were destined to be together. Attending the nuptials included politician Nate Archibald who has considered making a run for Mayor of New York City. Blair and Chuck have a child, Ivy is a well accomplished writer whose book is being turned into a movie. Audiences were also treated to the return of bad-girl
On a sad note, Lily (Kelly Rutherford) and Rufus (Matthew Settle) are no longer together. The series ended on the note, that while the lives of characters that we know are happily ending, it’s just the beginning of a new chapter. “
