HOLLYWOOD—It is indeed the one comedy that has made my work week less stressful thanks to a few well needed laughs. I’m talking about Tyler Perry’s “Love Thy Neighbor” which returns for its second season.
Audiences were left with the cliffhanger involving Linda (Kendra C. Johnson) and her boyfriend Will, learning about her infidelity by kissing Phillip. I’ll admit it appeared Will looked like he was determined to exact revenge on Linda because of her tryst, which means audiences will likely see how this develops throughout the rest of the season.
I mean the audience is still clamoring to find out what happened between Will and the fraud who stole Linda’s money for her apartment. Let’s hope that story is resolved this season, as it’s been dragged a bit long. In other news, Danny (Andre Hall) and Sam (Jonathan Chase) are still roommates bickering with one another over money, partying and their constant visits to the Love Train Diner.

Their neighbor and co-worker Drew (Darmirra Brunson) continues to feen for Danny’s affections. Here’s hoping this season Danny and Drew get drunk and end up in bed together. I have a feeling that might transpire this season, as it’s been teased since the first few episodes of the series.
The series has been notorious for delivering bellyaches in my opinion, as the audience follows kooky Hattie Mae (Patricia Lovely), her family through their many ups and many, many downs. It’s a treat to see a series tackle issues like independence, love, money, marriage, relationships and family. Hattie continues to take jabs at her secret lover Sam, who was repulsed by her advances.
The latest episode “Love Thy Condiments,” saw Hattie question her grandson’s actions, after she overheard Danny acknowledge that he isn’t practicing safe sex. This prompted the matriarch to implement some tough love about relationships, which prompted Sam to make jokes about Danny’s lack of a love life. Drew jumped in on the jokes, as well as Uncle Floyd. When Hattie revealed the news to Linda about Danny, she was outraged, which prompted a hilarious conversation about Danny’s sexuality. Not to mention that awkward conversation that every parent must have with their child at some point, unfortunately no one in the group knew how to come out and just say it.
The conversation led to a conversation about celibacy and waiting until marriage, which was a welcome change for the series to tackle such a heavy issue, with a lighthearted tone. From the looks of the first episode, I can only imagine what other laughs are in store for the audience this season. “Love Thy Neighbor” airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on OWN.
