HOLLYWOOD—On Monday, June 3, Matt Smith announced his departure from the BBC show "Doctor Who." After four years on the show, Smith is calling it quits. He will appear in two more episodes, making his last episode on the 50-year anniversary on Christmas.
Smith has made the television to movie transition recently co-starring in Ryan Gosling's directorial debut “How To Catch A Monster.” He has been filming in Detroit and looks to be headed towards new projects. Since 2006, he has only appeared in seven films at only 30 years old.
Long time fans of Doctor Who will be devastated. Smith garnered a fan base and was extremely popular as the eleventh Doctor. The hunt for number 12 will begin to replace Matt Smith. The long running series since 1963 has gone through many faces, all the Doctors have been males but a female may be in the near future.
The series will see it’s next two Doctors as the last since Time Lords can only regenerate 12 times, which means there can only be 13 Doctors overall.
