“PLL” Recap: ”˜I”™m Your Puppet”™
Posted by LaDale Anderson on Mar 12, 2013 - 6:29:25 PM

HOLLYWOOD—The writers of “Pretty Little Liars” continue to tease the audience as just one more episode remains before season three wraps.  Tuesday’s penultimate episode “I’m Your Puppet,” edged our liars a bit closer to the revelation of just who could be cloaked in that red coat. Hey, what would “PLL” be without another dead body?  The way residents are turning up dead in this city there should be a shortage of citizens.

The episode opened with Spencer (Troian Bellisario) still on pins and needles inside of Radley, but somehow our favorite liar has gained some of her mental capacity back and is back in investigation mode. Hanna (Ashley Benson), Aria (Lucy Hale) and Emily (Shay Mitchell) paid their BFF a visit, whose catatonic state continued to hold over her.  “The park rangers found a body,” said Hanna bluntly.  It did indeed catch Spencer off guard, Spence discovered the body was a park ranger, but denial continued to persist for her.  A pissed Hanna gave Spencer a dose of reality, but she wasn’t hearing a single word.

“Those bars don’t just keep you from getting out, it keeps other people from getting in,” said a wise Spencer to the liars. The table’s were turned when Emily found herself playing houseguest to Hanna, just as she questioned her mom about the body that was found.  Aria was on high alert after lying to her principal about her relationship with Ezra; this relationship is going downhill very fast. Mrs. Montgomery (Holly Marie Combs) confronted Hanna with disturbing news about Caleb’s father.

Emily may be looking to push Paige (Lindsey Shaw) to the side for Shana (Aerial Miranda).  Wren (Julian Morris) and Eddie had a tense conversation as he attempted to connect with Spencer.  She became hooked on a board game that Mona once played while inside Radley; a game that provided Spencer with Mona’s map where she hid souvenirs, one being an escape route out of Radley. Hanna was caught off guard by the present that Jamie gave to her.

Spencer’s overbearing mother (Lesley Fera) persisted that she comes home, just as a frustrated Spencer lashed out. It was during those moments that Spence’s mom dropped a bombshell on her daughter that involved a flashback. During the flashback it showed Alison speaking with Veronica about an injury on her lip and sneaking out of the house.  She was indeed frazzled and scared.  Alison begged Spencer’s mother to not say anything about her injury to her parents as it would only make things worse; she then unleashed a gleeful smile.  Spencer begged her mother to tell her who may have injured Alison.  Veronica remained mum, but suspected it may have been Jason, but now thinks otherwise.  This information is indeed a game changer.

Hanna, Aria and Emily dressed as candy girl nurses snuck into the morgue to locate the dead body found in the forest.  “This isn’t a clearance sale Emily,” shouted a frightened Hanna.  Indeed a funny line of the night.  While outside the morgue, Aria spotted the mysterious figure in the red coat, but she got away. On one of the dead bodies, Emily and Hanna discovered a funny looking Alison mask over the face.  I think “A” was sending the girls a message that they are indeed watching.  Eddie indicated that Wren may have played a role with the faulty visitor’s passes, in addition to spending lots of time with Mona.  Smart girl that Spencer, being sure to keep her medication hidden.

Hanna and Caleb’s relationship began to have fractures thanks to Jamie.  Aria stopped by to pick up Malcolm and discovered that someone beat her to the punch.  It’s quite frightening as the mystery figure took the tot to a carnival. “A” is not playing around. Wonder how Aria is going to explain this to Ezra?  This stunning turn of events does provide the audience with a very important clue: the mystery figure has to be a woman!  A frantic Aria went searching for Malcolm at the carnival and ran into her mother, who distracted her from finding Malcolm.  Aria began to lose it after not being able to locate Malcolm, but stumbled upon the child during a puppet show; he revealed that her friend Alison picked him up from school!  If Aria is smart she’d show the kid a picture of her friend to confirm her identity.

Hanna was surprised to be caught in the middle of Caleb and Jamie’s relationship. Why do I have the weirdest feeling that Jamie is being set-up by “A?”  Emily showed up at the police station and wanted to chat with her mom, but was extremely concerned about what was taking place at the police station.  She spotted her mother carrying a box titled “MISSING PERSONS.”

Spence followed the map to another location which led her to a secret room where she saw Alison!  Is Spencer dreaming or is this another mind game, this show is crazy.  Spencer questioned Ali about her bloody lip, where Spencer hinted it was a “she” that gave her a bloody lip.    Spence located various visitor passes one with Mona’s photo on it and another from CeCe Drake authorized by Wren Kingston.

Aria told a dumbfounded Ezra that their relationship was over!  She did a good thing; making sure she was a victim of “A’s” game and not someone she cared about. Is it over for Ezria?  Wren was not too happy to discover that Spencer found Mona’s souvenirs and questioned him about CeCe.  Wren admitted that Alison pulled a stunt at a frat party that got CeCe kicked out of school.  CeCe knew about Mona’s stay at Radley because Melissa Hastings (Torrey DeVitto) called her!  Once again Melissa finds herself entangled in a web of deception; just how big of a role does Melissa have in this mystery.  I suspect it’s much bigger than everyone else suspects.

Emily’s mom disclosed super sensitive information to her that another body was found.  A young man, in his teens, Emily was frantic.  Lots of trauma was inflicted onto the body, so the identity is still concealed. This does not look good for Toby, but it’s not certain.  It could also be the body of perhaps Jason (Drew Van Acker), Lucas (Brendon Robinson) or Noel Kahn (Brant Daugherty) who audiences have not seen in quite some time. Hanna did her best to console a hurt Caleb, but it didn’t do much for him. Hanna got the confirmation that “A” set up Caleb’s dad and he caught a glimpse of Hanna’s phone. Emily rushed to Aria and Hanna to tell them about the second dead body that was found.  The liars did not look too happy.  Inside Spencer’s pillow case was a black hoodie/sweater in addition to two tickets for the puppet show.  OMG, Spencer kidnapped Malcolm! Is our favorite liar apart of the “A” team? Does she have a plan or has she crossed over to the dark side?

In the final moments a body was rolled into the morgue with the tattoo that is similar to the one that Toby has. By far this episode has set-up the biggest mystery leading to the epic finale where we will finally see the face of the woman in the red coat.  These past three months have been torture, so the revelation should be well worth the wait.  Until season finale Tuesday “PLL” fanatics!
