“Pretty Little Liars” Kills Off”¦..
Posted by LaDale Anderson on Oct 23, 2012 - 7:40:03 PM

HOLLYWOOD—The past six weeks has been torture, but thankfully the “Pretty Little Liars” staff knew that fans needed an episode to carry them over until the return of the series in January.  The Halloween episode amply titled “This Is A Dark Ride” delivered in more ways than anyone could imagine, including a death that will be talked about for days.

The episode dallied with the excitement surrounding Halloween: playing dress up and being someone else for a day.  Who doesn’t love that idea?  I know I do.  The stunner of the night was the revelation that Garrett (Yani Gellman) is dead!  Yep, Rosewood’s resident police officer is no more.  In Rosewood having a secret or knowing a secret can get you killed; more on his death later.  The episode opened with Mona (Janel Parrish) painting a face and talking to someone cloaked in a black hoodie.  The audience is made to believe that person is Toby, but we never actually see his face so it could be someone else.

Spencer (Troian Bellisario) comes face-to-face with Garrett, who is ready to come clean about everything, but is interrupted by Toby (Keegan Allen).  Could Toby have placed the hit out on Garrett, perhaps, but I don’t think so.  The teens frolicked at the costumes that everyone was wearing.  Hanna (Ashley Benson) was Marilyn Monroe, Aria (Lucy Hale) was Daisy from The Great Gatsby and Emily (Shay Mitchell) was some bombshell from outer-space.

Spencer was stunned to see Jason (Drew Van Acker) aboard the ghost train. Just why would an adult be at a teen party?  He definitely has some ulterior motives that were made clear when Jason and Lucas starred one another down.  The two were definitely hiding something.  As Lucas departed, Jason followed close behind.  The devious Mona snuck away from the institution, any guesses as to where she was heading?

A very odd sub-plot of the night took place at Hanna’s house, when Ashley (Laura Leighton) stumbled upon a lost little girl in her kitchen.  The conversation she had with the little girl made me think of Alison (Sasha Pieterse), but when Ashley said the girl was “cold” the first thing that popped into my head was ghost.  Not sure where this story is going, but it really got my mind going with ideas. Someone dressed as a Jester drugged Aria’s drink without her knowing it.   Moments later Spencer was taken captive by the person dressed in a baby face costume; it turned out to be Garrett.

Garrett revealed some major bombshells about the night Alison died.  First, Garrett and Jenna (Tammin Sursok) left Alison’s bedroom, leaving Melissa and Ian behind.  As they walked outside, they ran into Alison who threatened the duo.  Jenna and Alison fought and Garrett threatened her with a hockey stick.  The audience was made to believe that he killed Alison, but he did not.  Only Jenna thinks that. The jaw-dropper of the night came when Garrett revealed he saw Alison with Aria’s dad, Bryon (Chad Lowe)!  I knew it! I called this twist months ago, after that earring was found in her dad’s office.  The question remains if Bryon played a role in Alison’s death and could he be a member of the “A” team?

Aria found herself locked inside a wooden box.  As she attempted to free herself, she came face-to-face with Garrett’s dead body.  Things got juicer when Hanna came face-to-face with someone who looked like Caleb, but it turned out to be Mona!  She was wearing some mask that looked just like Alison's face.  The audience learns it was Mona at the end of the episode. The BFF’s meet once again.

This means the person dressed in the Jester costume that attacked Spencer had to be someone else; just who is the mystery.  I don’t see Toby attacking her even though he’s on the “A” team.  So it could be Lucas (Brendan Robinson) or her duplicitous sister, Melissa (Torrey DeVitto); its one mystery that will have my mind boggled for weeks now. Luckily, Paige (Lindsey Shaw) came to her rescue and they found a fingernail left behind. It could be a girl, but Hanna and Spencer theorized it could also be a guy.

As Aria attempted to escape the wooden box, two people begin to move the box.  It was definitely a guy and a girl.  I tried to distinguish voices, but it was a difficult task.   Aria was able to stab the male assailant, which means someone with a wound is the guilty party.   Spencer, Emily and Hanna found Aria, just as the box was about to be pushed off the train.

The liars realized that “A” wanted Garrett to be released from prison so that he could be taken out.  They realized that two members of the NAT club, Ian and Garrett are now dead, question is why? Hanna, Noel (Brant Daugherty) and Jenna bickered, which led to a fight between Toby and Noel that sent shockwaves through the train as the body bag containing Alison’s body was found!  Jason was completely dumbfounded, so were the liars.

No “Pretty Little Liars” episode would be complete without one more twist, which involved someone digging themselves from the grave.  Looks like the gazebo area behind Alison’s house.  Who that person is I have absolutely no clue, but it appears to be a flashback.  So Alison may indeed be the guilty party. This is an episode I’m going to have to watch twice to decipher more clues.  Well “PLL” fanatics the second half of season three premieres on Tuesday, January 8 at 8 p.m. with new episodes.  In just a few weeks, television’s guiltiest pleasure returns!
