“Pretty Little Liars” Recap: ”˜Mona-Mania”™
Posted by LaDale Anderson on Jan 15, 2013 - 6:23:18 PM

HOLLYWOOD—There’s a reason Mona (Janel Parrish) was the least expected when it came to finding out just who “A” was. Is she bad or is she good?  It’s a question that was further reiterated in episode 15 “Mona-Mania,” in which the liars suspected Mona was up to no good. The episode opened with the continued secrecy surrounding Bryon (Chad Lowe) and Aria (Lucy Hale) and the skeletons in his closet. To say that their relationship is fractured would be an understatement; Aria needs to move in with her mother pronto. Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Emily (Shay Mitchell), and Hanna (Ashley Benson) snuck back into Harold’s lair.

Someone dressed in a black hoodie was waiting in the room and darted out when the opportunity arose, leaving a message behind for the ladies to know they are watching. Hmmm, “A” injured that kid on the bike to help Spencer’s chances with the academic decathlon. Mona fabricated a story surrounding Harold stalking her. Hanna was well aware that Lucas (Brendon Robinson) was the one in Harold’s room based on the shoes that he was wearing.  Lucas is absolutely freaked out by Mona.  The revelation that he was the one who attempted to stop Mona, but injured Meredith was shocking. Everyone has secrets and these secrets are epic!

The liars discuss Mona's intentions.

It was such a treat to see Ella (Holly Marie Combs) back in the mix of things. Aria paid her mom a visit to discuss the night of Alison’s disappearance. She discovered from her mom that they were not out as late as she thought they were. Meanwhile, Meredith eavesdropped on the mother/daughter chat. Spencer was stunned that Mona would be joining the academic decathlon team; looks like that bike accident was all part of “A” or Mona’s plan. Two enemies both vying for the top spot: let the claws come out. It was a treat to see Ella confront Meredith about accusing her daughter about the fire. The liars speculated what Bryon may have been up to the night that Alison vanished and discovered that the pages from Ali’s diary had gone missing from her boot. It was torture to see him taunt his daughter about finding the missing pages. What type of father does that?

Spencer caught Toby in the act of something suspicious just as Lucas paid Hanna a visit and discovered that he is leaving Rosewood High and that Mona has been blackmailing him. Lucas admitted that he was the person almost run down by "A." Lucas has been selling the test scores to all exams at the high school for cash, which Mona has been using against him.  Aria witnessed Bryon and Meredith arguing, where he attempted to restrain her; it frightened Meredith, but scared the daylights out of Aria as well.  Paige (Lindsey Shaw) confessed to Emily that she is suffering an extreme case of anxiety. At a local diner, Aria asked Meredith about her father’s anger issues where she revealed she caught Bryon roaming through her bedroom as well as her purse. She gave Aria the missing pages from Ali’s diary, which Meredith was already well aware of.
Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Mona (Janel Parrish) have an epic blow-out.

Meredith revealed that Bryon came to see her the night Alison disappeared; she dropped a bombshell indicating that Bryon left her apartment to go visit Alison.  Aria’s daddy is looking like the prime suspect in Ali’s murder. Spencer and Mona went toe-to-toe at the academic decathlon, but in the end Mona edged out the win over Spencer who was devastated. Emily and Paige discovered that someone slashed her tire after returning from their walk. Emily spotted the mysterious figure in a hoodie watching from a distance. What a surprise it was to discover it was Toby! Hanna confronted Mona about her antics, which led to explosive words where Hanna dismissed her former BFF. It’s just a matter of time before these gal pals are laughing over a bowl of ice cream.

Spencer and Hanna discussed Mona’s motives, which frightened Spencer a bit. She knows Mona is dangerous; the problem is the other liars don’t.  Meredith and Aria bonded as one of our favorite liars fell ill. But are Meredith’s motives sincere or part of a larger plan? The episode wrapped with Bryon being watched by Mona as he left his office. She contacted someone by phone. The final moments revealed someone burying the masks that have been used to torture the liars.  Whether it was Toby or not, we don't know. Next week’s episode looks quite thrilling with mannequins and a confrontation between Spencer and Toby that will be a game changer. Until next week “PLL” fanatics.
