“Revenge” Recap: ”˜Retribution”™

HOLLYWOOD—When we last left “Revenge” audiences were treated to two deaths: the death of the real Emily Thorne and the death of Nate Ryan. The fallout of Amanda’s (Margarita Levieva) death had ripple effects in the Hamptons during the episode titled “Retribution.”  The episode opened with a frenetic Emily (Emily Van Camp) on a rampage as Nolan (Gabriel Mann) attempted to calm his frazzled friend down.  Emily was indeed at her emotional breaking point; besides her father, Amanda was the closet thing to family our heroine ever experienced.

Conrad (Henry Czerny) and Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) grappled with the aftermath of their actions.  Charlotte (Christa. B. Allen) and Declan (Connor Paolo) hurried to the hospital to check on the condition of Jack (Nick Wechsler).  Victoria and Conrad may have finally crossed the line, Emily wants revenge and she wants it bad!  The Initiative was well aware that Amanda was not responsible for Helen’s demise and Victoria and Conrad did their best to sway Mr. Trask (Burn Gorman).  Daniel seemed a bit unnerved while speaking with Mr. Trask; the big and mighty isn’t so mighty after all.

Aiden (Barry Sloane) worked his magic as he attempted to get back into good graces with Daniel in hopes of getting that seat on the board. Emily was a bit surprised to find Mr. Trask snooping around at the boat house.  Ashley (Ashley Madewke) bluntly asked Conrad if he was responsible for Amanda’s death.  Her suspicions have been raised, but more importantly she now sees Conrad for the duplicitous liar that he is. Nolan and Emily discovered that The Grayson clan was responsible for Helen’s murder and attempted to frame Amanda for it.

Nolan was not impressed with Daniel’s sympathy visit and called Daniel’s bluff to fire him, just as he made vicious threat; Nolan didn’t appear too fazed by what Daniel was serving.  Charlotte was an utter mess; Victoria was not sure how to console her daughter about the passing of her “sister.”  Charlotte began doing her own research to find relatives of Amanda Clarke.  Declan and Emily had to deliver heartbreaking news to Jack that Amanda is dead, just as Conrad showed up delivering his condolences.  Jack was onto the fact that Nate Ryan didn’t appear to have a motive for wanting Amanda dead.   Once again the Graysons flaunted their money to sooth over the wounds they inflicted.  Jack shocked Nolan and Amanda with the news that Amanda had possession of a laptop with all files on the Grayson family in her mission to bring them down.

Victoria convinced Daniel to hand over Helen’s shares to Aiden in an effort to gain his trust. In a fit of unthinkable rage, Jack stumbled upon a key after smashing a jar of sea shells. Any guesses as to what that key leads to?  Emily checked in with her sister to see how she’s doing.  Will Emily just tell Charlotte already that she is her ”˜real’ sister?  After that visit, Charlotte stumbled across some information.  Jack located the box to the mysterious key.  He uncovered the laptop that Amanda mentioned and attempted to unlock the password with no success.

Conrad held a press conference in his bid for governor; just as Jack made idle threats against his enemy. Emily bonded with Jack as the duo prepped for Amanda’s funeral, just as he confronted her about her past.  He’s getting closer to discovering her true identity and I fear the ramifications will be explosive.  Amanda’s funeral was bittersweet with only a handful of guests that included Daniel, Victoria, Charlotte, Conrad, Jack, Nolan, Declan and Emily. Emily contemplated telling Jack the truth, just as Victoria paid tribute to her former flame David Clarke.

Jack asked Nolan to assist with cracking the code to the computer, just as he found his home ransacked.  Emily made a game changing move by launching the computer into the ocean that Aiden stole for her.  Daniel finally decided to rid his office of the camera that was spying on him. In the final moments of the episode, Emily came face-to-face with Amanda Clarke’s brother!  Just what secrets does this long lost relative know about the real Amanda Clarke?  Until next Sunday “Revenge” lovers!
