“True Blood” Recap: ”˜Who Are You, Really?”™
Posted by LaDale Anderson on Jun 17, 2013 - 6:37:40 AM

HOLLYWOOD—The first episode of the new season of “True Blood” is one that will be the cooler talk at work for days.  Amply titled ”˜Who Are You, Really’ picked up preciously after season five ended, with Sookie (Anna Paquin) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) fleeing The Vampire Headquarters after seeing Bill (Stephen Moyer) return from the dead.  Just exactly what Bill is no one quite knows which makes him a frightening foe; he almost appears indestructible.

The Governor of Louisiana (Arliss Howard) made his proclamation to protect the citizens of his state from vampires.  Including implementing a curfew for vampires and closing down all vampire establishments.  It was indeed an all out war.  Nora (Lucy Griffiths) and Eric sprawled about the potential rebirth of the godlike Lilith aka ”˜Bilith’ as he is now known. It appears Nora knows more about Warlow than she is telling Eric, Jason (Ryan Kwanten) and Sookie.  He was Lilith’s prodigy, hmm, I’m wondering if Nora has ever come face-to-face with this mysterious being.

Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) on "True Blood."

Bill’s newfound powers took a wicked toll on Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) as he summoned her to come to him, which forced the entire clan to deliver Jessica to the all powerful supernatural entity. Andy (Chris Bauer) grappled with the newfound duties as a father, just as he discovered that his children literally age overnight. In a tragic update, Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) learned from Sam (Sam Trammell) that Luna is dead!  I suspected it, but I wasn’t quite sure if the series was going to go there.  Now Sam has to deal with the task of raising little Emma on his own. The only person left to care for the tot is her grandmother.

Jason came face-to-face with a stranger as he hitched a ride, that mischievous being turned out to be Warlow himself. It appears he has ghostly powers as he vanished when Jason attempted to shoot him. Sookie and Jessica came face-to-face with Bill as the clan attempted to stabilize Bill; in a shocking moment Sookie was forced to stake her former lover as he attempted to finish off Eric, but surprise he didn’t die. As Bill’s former friends attempted to reason with him, Jessica came to his defense which prompted a shocking response, as she decided to stand by her maker, not really knowing just who he is. He promised them no harm, but warned them if they attacked him, he’d be forced to do the unthinkable.

Alcide (Joe Manganiello) and his wolf pack celebrated his new rise to power, just as our leader found himself torn by two women and he was treated to a threesome.  Tara attempted to knock some sense into Pam about Eric’s constant betrayal to her.  The two lovers found themselves at the mercy of the government as they failed to comply with orders.  Sookie and Eric shared a moment where he signed back her home to her; she then rescinded her invitation to her friend as she tackled the task of piecing her life back together.

Nora discovered that Eric was in love with Sookie. He warned her not to disrupt his relationship with Sookie otherwise she’d be sorry. Jessica appeared to keep her guard up around Bill.  She trusts her maker, but not fully. It’s a ploy in my opinion to get closer to discovering just who he really is. Bill confided in her sharing his deepest secrets, he has a master plan, just what hasn’t manifested quite yet. The episode closed with Bill encountering some vicious visions of torture, as he continued to see multiple hallucinations of Lilith, which ultimately possessed his body. “True Blood” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO, don’t miss it!
