'Walking Dead's' Bloodletting On Sunday Night
Posted by Contributor on Oct 24, 2011 - 3:44:47 AM

HOLLYWOOD—On last night’s episode of “The Walking Dead” titled “Bloodletting,” the zombies continued wreaking havoc on the humans, who this season have left the urban dwelling and are in the wilderness. The last survivors find themselves battling the bloodthirsty zombies, and this week there was a heartwarming moment when a child was saved from an almost certain death.

Heartbroken Rick was devastated when he had to take his son Carl back to the farmhouse after he was almost killed. Luckily for Rick, friend Shane was there to offer him a helping hand. Rick was able to find a veterinarian, who now lives on a farm, but the doctor was stunned to find the bullet that had entered Carl’s body had splintered into pieces, and he had a tough surgery ahead. Rick had to give Carl blood, but the almost prehistoric-like medical facility run out of the former vet’s house led to an episode filled with drama and danger for the group.

Hordes of zombies continued their rampage for human blood and other characters found themselves in precarious places. What worked last night was the fact that the show was emotionally driven, and characters were the focus of the drama surrounding things. As scary and entertaining as it is to see the zombies chasing through the woods for fresh human flesh, seeing characters we have grown to love and care about having genuine emotional worries comes across a lot better to viewers.

Emotionally shattered, Rick blamed himself for the hunting incident, but Shane tried to reassure him that Carl would survive, reminding his friend that he managed to pull through after being similarly wounded. In another pivotal moment, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) came riding up on horseback to tell Lori that Carl had been badly injured in an accidental shooting, then Lori immediately headed back to the farmhouse. Luckily, by the time she returned, Carl had pulled through. But it sure did not end there. There was so much drama last night that viewers could hardly keep up with it. And more is on the way, as next week’s episode has more emotional drama than ever before.

“The Walking Dead” airs at 9 p.m. on AMC on Sunday nights. Stay tuned for “The Talking Dead” commentary after the episode airs.
