2004 an eclectic time full of love…
Ruta Lee (our Chairman) came hobbling back from Las Hadas with a broken ankle. She tripped over a cobblestone curb catching a runaway puppy (the puppy was rescued)…but that never stops the dynamic Rooter, and Thalians business was carried on as usual!
Upcoming for The Thalians February 28 and 29 (Leap Year Day) is a spectacular Desert Extravaganza (Palm Springs, of course) bringing together two awesome charities, Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center at Eisenhower and The Thalians Mental Health Center at Cedars-Sinai, which offers “putting the fun back into fun(d)raising while enjoying a spectacular weekend in the Playground of the stars”. Both renowned non-profit organizations will benefit equally.
Frances Allen, who is coordinating the desert event, came in from Palm Desert to meet with Ruta, Dr. Irwin Lehrhoff (Founder of the Thalians Presidents Club), and yours truly at Dr. Lehrhoff’s office, which ironically is around the corner from the fantastic new Kate Mantilini’s Restaurant in Woodland Hills. Owners Marilyn and Harry Lewis are without question the most loving and charitable people in the world. Their generosity has been shared by The Thalians at The Gardens in Westwood, as well as Kate Mantilini’s in Beverly Hills for many, many years. So it was a double treat to go for lunch and bump into them as well. Once we stopped oohing and aahing about their food and décor, the meeting continued. To our dear friends, Marilyn and Harry Lewis, congratulations, you did it again. (Kate Mantilini’s 818/348-1095).
Phyllis Diller, The First Lady of Comedy, called to let me know she is still joyously happy about her New Year’s Resolution “not to make any resolutions”. (Photo)
While Carol Connors, (Photo) most charitable talented singer and songwriter (“Rocky” theme), is holding true to her New Year's Resolution: “I am going to put myself first in every situation if it is the last thing I do!!!"
We will be sharing the perfect Valentine with Debbie Reynolds (Thalians president) who is performing “Love Letters” at the El Portal Theatre with the very handsome John Saxon. Call 310-423-1040 for tix.
There is still time and space available if you are interested in joining the fun packed Desert Extravaganza – please contact Frances Allen at 310-423-1040.
Always creative, always active – The Thalians are 49 years old this year! We’re not getting any older...only better….
The Thalians are dedicated to solving America’s No. 1 health problem: Mental Illness. More people suffer from mental disorders than all other diseases combined
