A Little Bit of This and That

Our Thalians' fundraising year commences in January and culminates with our anniversary ball, usually in October. This year is no different. This year The Thalians are celebrating their 48th anniversary October 11th, 2003 at the Century Plaza Hotel. We build our event around a Mr. or Ms. Wonderful. This year we honor Burt Bacharach. In the past we have honored everyone from Lucille Ball, Whoopi Goldberg, Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra (we are 48 you know), Phyllis Diller, Sally Field, Kenny Rogers, and on and on. We have professionals donating their time as producers, lighting and sound, as well as PR. HOT NEWS: Joey McIntyre of the "New Kids on the Block" will be attending the ball and there is a chance he might be joining The Thalians Board of Directors. Our event is a highlight of the season with a glitz and glamour evening and it’s all manned and worked totally by volunteers and caring members.
We raise our funds through The Thalians membership and the members' efforts. What, you are interested? We just held a membership meeting at The Smokehouse in Burbank. The generosity of Lee and Marti Spencer, new owners, was so warm and welcoming. We’ll never know if it was the sumptuous Smokehouse hors d’oeuvres or The Thalians' appeal…but we recruited several dynamic new people. In fact, Canyon News’ own Winter and Masha were guests. Membership into The Thalians is very easy – fill out a form, dues are $100 a year, and then volunteer for various committees. We have ways of helping you raise funds to meet goals. You decide how much time you want to donate! Trust me…you don’t need a five or ten-digit bank account to partake…I know!
THAL IANS ON THE MOVE
Recently, Barbara Cohen, a Board member, enlisted the help of volunteers to help stuff our 3,000 invitations. Your pay…delicious pizza, soft drinks, cookies, chips and dip.
Ruta Lee just closed in Babes in Arms at UCLA’s Freud Theatre’s Reprise Series.
While Paula Kent Meehan, who recently hosted the "Teahouse" party in August, hosted Bob and Toni Holt Kramer (our ball chairs), Bob and Margie Petersen (Petersen Auto Museum) Erica Branson, and other Thalians supporters aboard her yacht on the Italian Riviera.
Thalians are a very charitable organization and our members support other projects as well:
Northern Valley – Rona Barrett, former Hollywood columnist and a longtime supporter, will host a fundraiser at her ranch in Ojai October 4th, 5th and 6th starring Lionel Richie. The three-day event will benefit Santa Ynez’s Cottage Hospital and many Thalians plan to attend.
The Smart Set will honor Debbie Reynolds with the Mary Pickford Award of Achievement on October 8th. All proceeds benefit the Motion Picture and Television Fund.
Ida Myers advises the Fashion Industry Guild’s gala that will be October 4th at the Regent Beverly Wilshire. This benefits the Pediatric Aids and Neo Natal Clinic at Cedars Sinai.
Stephanie Hibler will chair The Thalians President's Club champagne soiree on October 30th at Buccellati, world-renown jewelers and silversmith, in Beverly Hills.

The Thalians are dedicated to solving America’s No. 1 health problem: mental illness. More people suffer from mental disorders than all other diseases combined.
... see you around the campus!
