President Obama confirmed late Sunday night that troops in Pakistan apprehended and killed bin Laden through a U.S. military operation. After a 10-year manhunt for bin Laden, the mission to capture him has been achieved. No Americans were harmed during the operation.
Reports state that bin Laden was allegedly hiding in a mansion in Abbottabad, Pakistan where he was killed along with other family members.
"Justice has been served," said the president as he addressed the families who had lost loved ones during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Bin Laden was known as head of Al-Quaeda, responsible for the death of thousands of Americans in 2001. After hiding in Afghanistan, he reportedly crossed the border into Pakistan where Al-Quaeda operations continued.
Even though the president stated that the "death of bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our nation's effort to defeat Al-Quaeda," the United States will continue to fight Al-Quaeda.
