ER Star's Meltdown Down Under

MELBOURNE—"ER" star John Stamos has admitted he could have killed off his career after traveling to Australia - part of yet another bizarre outburst which shocked execs of the hit show "ER" as well as executives at NBC and Warner Bros.
Channel 9 in Melbourne, Australia was forced to cut short Stamos's media schedule for the medical drama after he went on a second tirade in two days, during an appearance on Kerri-Ann Kennerley's morning show yesterday.
The former Full House heart-throb was obviously disorientated as Kennerley's guest as part of a promotional tour Down Under in which he has constantly appeared blurry-eyed, tired and dishevelled.
"It was a bit like he'd perhaps come from a hotel mini-bar in true Hollywood style," a diplomatic Kennerley said.
Stamos was in Australia to promote his appearance as Dr Tony Gates in the long-running medical drama, a role for which he's won praise from industry critics.
He reacted violently to claims he was bleary-eyed, staggering and slurring at an interview with TV writer Stephen Downie.
Stamos, 38, went on the attack when Kennerley asked about his tired and emotional condition.
After calling on Australia's Greek community to boycott The Daily Telegraph over his treatment, Stamos then turned on KAK herself, insulting the TV star's outfit and gyrating around with one of the studio props.
Besides insulting Downie, Stamos likened himself to Elvis and Princess Diana and then said: "Who else has died? My career after coming to Australia."
After his disastrous performance on morning TV, all other interviews were cancelled and Stamos was put on a plane back to the US.
The official line from production company Warner, which funded the actor's jaunt Down Under, and Channel 9, which set up interviews with the nation's media and would air the new series of ER this year, was that Stamos "needed to rest".
A Channel Nine spokeswoman said the star was showing the ill-effects of jet lag.
Stamos himself said he was suffering from crossing time zones in a short space of time.
"I came from Greece, Cairo and Japan ... and, for whatever reason, I am so jet-lagged here," Stamos said.
Many in the Australian press feel this was unlikely, as Stamos had been in the country since Thursday. One observer even went as far as to say, "he appeared to be in good health when seen at Sydney strip club Pure Platinum the day he arrived, where he signed autographs and chatted with patrons.
A longtime friend of Stamos's told Canyon News. "This is not the John I know. He was obviously jet lagged and suffering from a flu bug and probably had become disoriented. This is hihgly out of character for him, he's a consummate professional."
No comment however from Warner Brothers or NBC about the status of his contract.
