Angels Fall In Greinke's Debut
Posted by Eric Lemus on Jul 30, 2012 - 12:57:54 PM

ANAHEIM—Friday afternoon, the Los Angeles Angels pulled off yet another big deal when they traded their top prospect to Milwaukee for all-star pitcher, Zack Greinke.

Greinke was the hottest commodity on the market and was sought after by many contending teams, including Angels' rivals, the Texas Rangers.

Greinke had a 3.44 ERA with the Brewers this season to go along with a 9-3 record in 21 starts this season. The Angels not only added a quality arm to a rotation that features Cy Young front-runner, Jered Weaver, and all-star C.J. Wilson, but they also keep the Rangers from improving their already stacked roster.

Sunday afternoon, Zack Greinke donned his Halo threads for the first time as he took the mound against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Greinke threw 7 innings, allowing 2 runs (one scored from third on a wild pitch), 7 hits, 8 strikeouts, and a walk. The strong performance wasn't enough, however, as the Angels fell 2-0.

Although the Angels offense had been shut down all weekend, the team had to be happy with its newest acquisition. With Ervin Santana struggling to find any consistency all season, the rotation is now much surer than it was previously.

The Angels will now look to not only catch the Texas Rangers, but keep the hottest team in baseball, the Oakland A's, off their tails.
