Dodgers Add Hanley Ramirez

LOS ANGELES—The Los Angeles Dodgers have bolstered their roster and playoff chances by dealing for all-star Hanley Ramirez late Tuesday night.

Ramirez has spent his entire career with the Miami Marlins (formerly Florida Marlins). He won NL Rookie of the Year in 2006, a batting championship in 2009, and has been named an all-star 3 times.

Over the off-season, the Marlins acquired shortstop Jose Reyes from the New York Mets. That deal meant that Ramirez would be moved to third base in favor of the more agile Reyes, a move Ramirez was not happy with.

The addition of Ramirez means that the Dodgers have finally added a big bat to help superstar Matt Kemp. Along with Andre Ethier, the Dodgers 2-3-4 hitters are now among the most formidable in the National League.

Along with Ramirez, the Dodgers also acquired pitcher Randy Choate in the trade, and sent pitchers Nate Eovaldi and Scott McGough to Miami.

This is the second major move by the Marlins in a week. They traded starter Anibal Sanchez to Detroit over the weekend, and rumors are circulating that Josh Johnson is also on the trade block.
