KANSAS CITY, MO—In the first inming, Justin Verlander gave up a one-out double to Ryan Braun that scored Melky Cabrera. After walking two more, Pablo Sandoval tripled to right to make it 4-0. An infield single by Dan Uggla made it 5-0 National League half an inning.

In the fourth inning, Rafael Furcal reached on a two-out triple and then scored on a single by Matt Holliday off of Matt Harrison. One batter later, Melky Cabrera hit a home run to make it 8-0 National League.

The American League had a great shot at cutting into the deficit in the fifth inning after David Ortiz reached on a single, Mike Napoli reached on an error by Bryce Harper, and a walk by Dodgers' ace Clayton Kershaw to Asdrubal Cabrera loaded the bases. Ian Kinsler worked a full count, but flew out to left and the National League kept it's eight-run lead.

In the Sixth inning, the crowd rose to their feet as Chipper Jones stepped up to bat in the final All-Star game of his future Hall of Fame career. Chipper was able to get the ball into right field for a single.

The American League was never able to get anything going, as the National League pitching staff absolutely dominated the more stout ALers.

In the end, the National League captured its third straight All-Star Game, after dropping the first seven since the game adapted the "This One Counts" motto for home-field advantage in the World Series. The National League has taken advantage of the All-Star perk as the San Francisco Giants beat the Texas Rangers in the 2010 World Series with home-field advantage and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Rangers last season in seven games.

San Francisco Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera was named All-Star Game MVP.
