Posted by Luis Cuevas on Mar 17, 2013 - 6:26:10 PM

UNITED STATES—On Sunday, March 17, Louisville was named the overall top seed in this year’s NCAA tourney. The Louisville Cardinals reward for closing the season with 10 straight wins and winning the Big East tournament was the No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament and a spot in the geographically friendly Indianapolis Regional. The Cardinals campus is a two-hour drive from the arena.

Kansas, Indiana and Gonzaga also received No. 1 seeds after a long regular season and another round of weekend upsets. The selection committee had its work cut out after five teams swapped the top ranking. It’s the first time for Gonzaga (30-2), who became the west coast conference, the first time in the school’s history.

The University Of Kentucky (21-11) winners of last year’s NCAA tournament didn’t even make the tourney after having an inner conference record of (12-6). No. 4 Louisville (29-5) leads the 68-team field after a stunning turnaround to beat Syracuse for the Big East Championship.

No. 7 Kansas (29-5) defeated rival Kansas State for the Big 12 title. No. 3 Indiana (28-6) held on to the No. 1 seed despite falling to Wisconsin in the Big Ten semifinals.

The Miami hurricanes became the first ACC team to be denied a top seed after winning both the regular season and the conference tournament they were awarded a No. 2 seed. The NCAA tournament begins on Tuesday, March 19.
