Allen Iverson To Officially Retire

UNITED STATES—On Thursday, August 22, Allen Iverson an 11-time all-star who has not played in the NBA since 2010 is preparing to officially retire. Iverson will announce is retirement in the coming days.

The 38-year-old has come to terms with the fact that his playing career has come to an end. He hasn’t played professionally since 2011 in Turkey. Back in March, Iverson told the Philadelphia 76ers crowd that he still hoped to return to the NBA. Two months before, he turned down an opportunity to launch a comeback in the NBA Development League. He has also pushed away lucrative deals from China trying to get back into the NBA.


One of the best scorers in NBA history, Iverson, listed at 170 pounds through much of his career, averaged 26.7 points and 6.2 assists. He had a 14-year career with the NBA, which included stops in Philadelphia, Denver and Memphis. A former No. 1 pick out of Georgetown, he was the 1997 Rookie of The Year, 2001 MVP and a three time all-NBA first selection. He led the 76ers to the NBA Finals in 2001.
