BROOKLYN—On Thursday, June 27, the Brooklyn Nets and the Boston Celtics pull off a blockbuster trade. The Celtics completed the end of the “Big 3” era with a trade that sent away Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Brooklyn Nets.

Kevin Garnett & Paul Pierce are sent to the Brooklyn Nets.

Also involved in the trade was guard Jason Terry. The Celtics let go of head coach Doc Rivers and sent away any memory of the 2008 championship with the trade of Pierce and Garnett. Boston received forward Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace and guard Keith Bogans. Celtics also received first round picks in 2014, 2016 and 2018. This is a step forward for the Celtics who are accelerating their rebuilding process.

The deal was only approved after Garnett waived his no trade clause. He would have been able to waive the clause if he decided to go with Doc Rivers along with Pierce, but a trade couldn’t involve players and coaches. The Brooklyn Nets along with these three new veteran players and new head coach Jason Kidd are trying to win now.
